Seasons Missing From TV Show (all have same naming convention)

I am trying to add all 21 seasons of Pokemon, however it only scans up until Season 9. I have tried the Plex Dance but that did not work. Below is more information on the files:

So lets takes Season 9 as an example as we know it works, the file name for this episode is:

[AnimeRG] Pokémon - 0427 - May’s Egg-cellent Adventure! [480p] [x265] [pseudo]

when I right click on it and go to properties the title is:

Pokémon S09E05 - May’s Egg-cellent Adventure!

Now lets take Season 10 as an example as it is not picked up by Plex:

[AnimeRG] Pokémon - 0469 - Following A Maiden’s Voyage! [480p] [x265] [pseudo]

when I right click on it and go to properties the title is:

Pokémon S10E01 - Following a Maiden’s Voyage!

So as you can see, they have the exact same naming convention as eachother so I am really confused to why it will not show up.

The way my folders are organized are as follows:

Media:
    Anime:
        Series:
[AnimeRG] Pokémon (EP 0001-1001) Pocket Monsters [480p] [English-Dubbed]
[Ultimate Batch 2018] [HEVC] [x265] [pseudo]

I believe if you follow the correct naming for Plex your problems will pretty much go away.

Note 2: The (year) may be omitted for shows that do not have more than one occurrence throughout the years.

There are many other structures and naming systems that work, mostly, but this is the one I use and it just works.

For a mass rename I use FileBot with this format string {n.replaceTrailingBrackets()} - {s00e00.lower()} - {t}

My apologies Elijah, I should of said that inside the Anime folder it is split into seasons however it is done like this:

01 - Indigo League

so I will go through and change all of them to:

Season XX - Season Name

If I find I need to do a mass rename I will use your suggested method. What exactly does the code line you use do, could you provide a example please?

Thank you for the help!

Seems to be another issue, so I changed the season names and the scanner picked all 21 seasons up and scanned through them all. However, it only added Season 10 and two episodes out of a 100 for that season.

I am just in confusion to why it picks up ones that are using the exact same format. Anyway, if I use your code for the mass rename will it correct the episode names?

The “code” line is simply the format string that I use in FileBot for TV shows. For more info see this link: FileBot format expressions.

Even though your structure seems correct the naming does not give Plex enough info to be sure about what each title is. Correct the naming and Plex will. most probably, get things correct.

Of course Plex, and every media manager I know of, has some problem with Anime so you might need to finagle around a bit to get everything correct but correct naming makes it easier on Plex.

Plex is pretty forgiving for movie names but, for TV, Plex is a strict taskmaster. You can get away with sloppy naming sometimes and for a while but bad naming will fail when you least expect it. It is best not to fight the great Plex-i-saurus or your data could end up resembling Tokyo after a visit from a certain well known large lizard.

It misses episodes because it has no idea what those episode are. Just because it works some of the time does not mean it will work all the time. In fact with bad naming you can get good results on one scan and bad results on the next.

As far as the rename it “should” correct everything but it is best to do it outside of Plex. That is move the series to a location where Plex cannot see it and rename it there then move it back. Also be sure to load the entire structure of the series into FileBot. Your naming is so bad that FileBot needs the whole structure to identify the series and files properly. BTE: There is a “Plex” format in FileBot that many use but I have never used it so I cannot tell you more about it.

A TV Show Library Folder/ <---library aimed here - nowhere else
...Pokémon/
.......Season 01/
......... Pokémon - S01E01.xxx
and so on....
.......Season 02/
........ Pokémon - S02E01 - Pallet Party Panic.xxx
........ Pokémon - S02E02 - Episode Name Optional.xxx
........ Pokémon - S02E03.xxx
and so on....

If you want your shows to work - name and structure them exactly as described in the guide and examples above.

You have zero options for TV Show Libraries except to follow the instructions.

I am doing this all now, I scrapped FileBot as it was asking me to pay $20 and found (after hour+ of trying different programs) Advanced Renamer to be absolutely perfect. Works like a charm and choosing the naming method is extremely easy and very customizable.

All renamed and adding back to see if it works now!

I finished adding everything and did another scan and it works perfectly, all seasons and episodes added! Thank you so much.

One last issue (not a biggie) but Season 20 and Season 21 seem to not of been found as they have the same backdrop and cover. All episodes are also named “Episode 1” and so on. Any clue why it is doing so?

Below is the new file set up which I am still amazed at, so clean in such a small amount of steps!

Series/
Pokémon/
Season 01/
Pokémon (1997) - S20E01 - Alola to New Adventure!

Pokémon (1997) has only 19 seasons.
https://www.thetvdb.com/series/pokemon

what you have there as season 19 appears to be season 1 of https://www.anisearch.com/anime/11757
which is a different show. However, I haven’t found it on TheTVDB. Maybe it is currently being re-organized on TheTVDB or something. Lately, they have been up to this kind of shenanigans frequently.

S18E01 according to thetvdb

Right you are.
A perfect example of how confusing Anime can be.

This makes a lot of sense, looks like they have not updated it yet as it is definitely season 20 (show is currently on season 21) but honestly its not much of a issue as I can still watch the show without a problem!

So thank you everyone for all the help!

You are very correct haha, it turns out it is called season 20 and 21 but it is for some reason put aside as the new Pokemon series (Pokemon (2019) and none of the agents have updated with those two new seasons so for now I am just going to have it stuck in the 1997 one!

Yes, Advanced Renamer is quite a good program for renaming file either in batches or one at a time. However, in defense of FileBot I find it better and well worth the $20.00. I believe that programmers/developers of quality should get paid no matter if the offer their product for free or not. I also own Advanced Renamer and have paid the $20.00 as well and I have paid for it as well. There is even a third renamer I use called simply ReNamer Lite.

Renamer Lite is a quite simple renaming utility at can rename in special circumstances and does that better in many cases than either of the other two.

Three tools for renaming seems excessive but each has a use and I hate doing more than one or two files manually. Renamer Lite does not handle TV shows or movies well as it does not try to match either but it can handle many unique situations.
