Simpler version of plex scanner

Hey there ! First of all I would like to apologize if this question has been asked but I can’t find a way to answer
Here is my situation, I have a bunch of anime shows (like 6tb), that don’t show correctly in the tvshow mode of my library, IE dragon ball z with 293 episodes named that way : episode 001 , 002 etc all the way to 293. It would appear simple that the scanner just put the files that way in the library but no, it is trying to make seasons of them so episode 1 is stacked with episode 101 as if the scanner is misundertanding the episode 101 as season 1 episode 01. I hope I’m clear.

My question is simple, would it be possible to make the scanners work only with the names on the folders and not messing with the episodes inside ? I don’t really care about the original titles, or synopsi. Something like Oh I scan the folder dragon ball here goes the poster and main intrigue but the scanner don’t touch the names nor stack the videos. the ultimate goal is to not having to rename the whole 20,000 files I have in my drive.

Again thank you for the time you’ll spend reading me.

Hi @shuradecoy

  1. To get the right names for any show you should obey the plex naming scheme

See: https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/

  1. Be sure that there are metadata info on TVBD.com from the content you wanna add to your library… if not you have to create it by yourself.

  2. Also, you can create a local metadata with app tiny media manager, download all the info you need, and then create your local metadata

It took more time reading it - that it would for Filebot to fix all your names and structures:

As always, it’s important that your files are named correctly, and that the seasons and episodes match what’s in TVDB.

It sounds like you want “Absolute” order. You can change that in Plex by editing the Show in your Library. That’s usually the right choice for Anime.

Plex:

TheTVDB:

ドラゴンボールZ - Unknown - Season 1 - TheTVDB.com

Though it wouldn’t be the 100% correct Plex-naming thing to do, it might be enough to put them all in a “Season 01” folder, and keep the 3-digit episode names.

“Dragon Ball Z/Season 01/Episode 001.mp4”
“Dragon Ball Z/Season 01/Episode 382.mp4”.

If you’re avoiding renaming things, try that first.

Yeah, that’s not enough, sorry. I was hoping that the “Season 01” folder would do the trick, but it doesn’t.

This works though. Same advice as from the others - look at FileBot (or friends) to do the actual renumbering.

Dragon Ball Z/Season 01/S01E005.mp4
Dragon Ball Z/Season 01/S01E015.mp4
Dragon Ball Z/Season 01/S01E102.mp4
Dragon Ball Z/Season 01/S01E209.mp4
Dragon Ball Z/Season 01/S01E321.mp4

Mostly my point is that you don’t have to change to per-season numbering.
