I’d like to have a section “Documentaries” where you can use both Metadata Agents (Movies/TV-Shows).
For Example:
[]BBC.Ganges.Indiens.Fluss.des.Lebens.DOKU.1080p.BluRay.x264-ReleaseGroup
This is recognized by the Movie Metadata Agent
[]Meilensteine.Wie.wir.die.Welt.neu.erfanden.S01E01.Mobiltelefone.German.DOKU.1080p.HDTV.x264-ReleaseGroup
This is recognized by the TV-Show Metadata Agent
Thanks!

Being a big Documentary person myself, I have arranged my collection in a similar way. However, for the most part, its pretty easy to get around without the need of mixing the two types.
-> most documentaries are part of a (mini) series
-> For the ones that aren’t, they are mostly catalogable in a “Documentary Series” of the channel; for example :
-> Animal Planet Documentaries
-> National Geographic Documentaries
-> History Channel Documentaries
These are on thetvdb.com so Plex can understand them. Also they keep the number of top-level items at bay.
Granted the situation isn’t ideal like it is with TV shows.
Yeah most documentaries can be found in TV if they were made by a station
its on thetvdb and tvrage River of life is episode 2. though it does not look like they have one with metadata translated into french if that’s what you want

http://thetvdb.com/?string=ganges&searchseriesid=&tab=listseries&function=Search
Thanks,
But the problem is by choosing the Section “TV-Shows” plex/thetvdb doesn’t recognize (it doesn’t even show in the list?) other movies like “Amerikas.Geheimprojekte.German.DOKU.1080p.HDTV.x264-UTOPiA” because that’s a Documentary movie. So I have to make 2 Sections: Documentary shows and Documentary movies. Why not making one section which can handle both: movies and tvshows…
Other movies which don’t work with your pretended example:
Alligator.Kingdom.3D.GERMAN.DOKU.HDTV.1080p.x264-TVP
Amerikas.Geheimprojekte.German.DOKU.1080p.HDTV.x264-UTOPiA
Amerikas.Suedwesten.2012.German.DOKU.1080p.BluRay.x264-LeetHD
Azoren.3D.-.Entdecker.Wale.Vulkane.GERMAN.DOKU.1080p.HDTV.x264-TVP
Die.Bismarck.Mythos.unter.Wasser.German.DOKU.1080p.HDTV.x264-UTOPiA
Fledermaeuse.Extrem.3D.GERMAN.DOKU.HDTV.1080p.x264-TVP
IMAX.Dinosaurier
Wonders.Carlsbad.Caverns.GERMAN.DOKU.1080p.3DTV.x264-TVP
Documentarys that work:
BBC.Ganges.Indiens.Fluss.des.Lebens.DOKU.1080p.BluRay.x264-MiSFiTS
Meilensteine.Wie.wir.die.Welt.neu.erfanden.S01E01.Mobiltelefone.German.DOKU.1080p.HDTV.x264-UTOPiA
Meilensteine.Wie.wir.die.Welt.neu.erfanden.S01E02.Automobile.German.DOKU.1080p.HDTV.x264-UTOPiA
Meilensteine.Wie.wir.die.Welt.neu.erfanden.S01E03.Flugzeuge.German.DOKU.1080p.HDTV.x264-UTOPiA
Meilensteine.Wie.wir.die.Welt.neu.erfanden.S01E04.Wolkenkratzer.German.DOKU.1080p.HDTV.x264-UTOPiA
// Just found a topic with the same problem: http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/36348-documentaries-require-both-tv-and-movie-metadata/
But thats a half year ago…
Short answer : No it’s not.
Long aswer : The problem you have stems more from a lack of standardization in the release & sharing groups than a missing feature in Plex. For example, “Amerikas Geheimprojekte” is just a german localization of an original English Documentary series properly cataloged in thetvdb series “Discovery Channel Documentaries”. The same goes for IMAX which has a series called “IMAX Ultimate Collection” HOWEVER the metadata for the german localizations are both missing.
Proper Fix : Look up the correct series info about the documentary (season & episode), properly rename your file, submit the correct metadata to thetvdb, and rescan your tv documentary section.
Dirty Fix : Name the episodes conforming the already present documentaries for the english version, and scan again.
I both have Discovery and IMAX scraped properly (the english version) using the TV sections and properly renaming the file.
I have also run into the same situation. It's not clean or intuitive to have Documentaries that are split from shows and series. I wonder if it would make more sense to have a hybrid scanner that can parse both types?
Yes, this would be a wonderful addition.
