"Secure Connection" crashes Plex outside Wifi

Server Version#: 1.18.1.1973

I bought a new Plex PC to switch from OSX to Windows, and all is well streaming remotely via Wifi, but as soon as I do it via Cellular Data, the Plex program on my Windows crashes.

Example:
Windows 10: Plex Server, Secure connections set to Preferred (and Remote Access is green check)
iPhone: I open Plex, see my library, but the moment I click PLAY on a movie, my Windows Plex crashes/closes (but if I’m on Wifi, works like a charm)

1st troubleshooting step was to simply format/factory restore my computer so I can eliminate 3rd party programs, malware, etc etc. So after formatting, the very 1st app I installed was Plex, add a movie, play it on iPhone, same issue.

I tried Googling, found lots of older articles so went through results from this year, didn’t have much luck (suggestions were mostly malware related, other programs, etc).

I’m kind of at a loss.

  • I don’t think it’s the computer (I formatted)
  • I don’t think it’s my router (worked liked a charm on my OSX Plex)
  • I don’t think it’s my iPhone (worked liked a charm via OSX Plex)
  • I don’t think it’s network/firewall (I turned off all of that in case)

I can provide some logs, although I’m not sure which part of the log is important, is it common to just paste the entire log/zip here and you guys are smart enough to know “this is the section it crashed at”?

Edit: Also, is it safe to post my ZIP log? It won’t have any IP’s that one can somehow try and remote into my PC?

I’m in the same boat, happened to me once before about a year ago and the only fix came with another windows update a few weeks later. but back with the same issue again hoping for a quick fix

did you ever get this fixed?

Hey Brenton, I wrote this reply out after your initial message but looks like I never saved it sorry! Here’s my reply/update:

Thanks for replying, and that’s weird you had the same issues, windows update fixed it, and now it’s back!

I have slightly narrowed it down with further troubleshooting though, so I bought a new Windows machine, and it works.

So Windows PC #1: Fresh install (Dell), doesn’t work.
Windows PC #2: Fresh install (Lenova), works.
Windows PC #3: Old install (old computer of mine), works.

So it can’t be router/phone/network, it has to be some type of configuration on specific machines. The Dell one (that doesn’t work), I installed Plex after a fresh install, I updated everything Windows-wise, and it still didn’t work.

Yet the other 2 PC’s (old or new), worked.

So in other words, never figured out the issue/solution, I simply bought a brand new machine.
