Currently my Plex server runs off my laptop with a 2TB External HD.
I really want to go to a wireless storage device and am fine still running PMS on my laptop and accessing my media on the wireless device.
What are the issues with using a wireless storage device with PMS on my laptop?
I run a pretty small server. I run DVD quality movies and TV shows. Mostly DVD rips. I have 5-7 friends who use my server on and off. My PlexPy says my most concurrent streams has been 4 at once.
Any suggested brands connections?
Ideally I would go full NAS but I can’t afford it. I’m looking to spend ~$250 right now. I would love 3TB storage with the potential to add a mirror drive to backup my data in the future.
Any suggestions?
Don’t even consider ‘wireless’ for the Plex server and the media storage.
Just don’t.

Amen!!! Wireless, at best, is just too unstable and prone to interference to use for something like video streaming that needs stable and reliable streams.
A friend of mine has a wireless component in his Plex setup. He constantly complains about performance.
If you’re wanting to keep the laptop wireless, invest in a NAS or separate PC to run Plex that’s wired and use a Plex client on the laptop. You’ll be way happier.
Thanks for the advice all.
I think I’m at the leaping point of having to invest in a NAS or a PMS devoted PC.
I don’t think I"m going to find that for $250
