Send server messages

i agree. or, even in non broadcast to an individual user (say, for parents).

This sounds like an Awesome idea, I think also having the ability for the client side to message back would be very helpful.

In my case I have over 75 full TV Shows (3500 episodes I think), 1000 Movies and 20,000 songs (some of this media is old and damaged).

I share my Plex library with out 15 people. I'm forever getting text's saying "this episode won't play" "that movie cuts off in the middle"

its purely because I haven't got the time to go through all thousands upon thousands of files I have to find the corrupt ones.

So my point is, if the people watching stuff when found a damaged or corrupt or just crap quality file could report it, send me a message though the plex app and I get an email to notify me, or something (maybe use Pushover) but also keeps a directory of reports etc on the Plex/Web interface sooooooooo I can check them and fix them, maybe even have an automated response back to the discoverer of the problem once its fixed.

I think you've taken it one step further or maybe I've missed something but I think the point here was to allow the owner of the server to be able to message the users not necessarily the other way around. I for one don't want it 2 way. I can imagine people will start using it instead of SMS or whatsapp etc. I'd rather have server to client notifications for downtime etc.

@Elliott, i think you should start a new feature request that would allow someone watching a movie to click on "Report Issue" and maybe 4 or 5 items - quality, won't play, corrupt, etc. kind of like what skype does at the end of a call.

Quality is a tough one because the server does transcoding, so quality could be becuase they've set the client to 320kbps... the feature would have to log where/how the person was using your server from.

I see benefit, though - i have the same issue.

just to have the messages added to the announcement section on the clients would be enough for me, but to have them sent as alerts or popups on startup would be even better.

But I want them to appear on other users to whom I have shared my library.

I would LOVE to be able to PM users I see in the "now playing" area.

I would imagine an request from server that would popup the message on the client.

I just wrote a duplicate request for this exact feature and was pointed here LOL.

+1 for me too for outgoing messages only. (although an inbox on the server for incoming would be cool too for complaints about bad media)

Doesn't particularly have to interfere with the media playing but a scrolling ticker above each of your sections would be good when in between movies or shows.

Downtime/updates/reboots, Media replacement (re-ripping a TV show from blu-ray to replace DVD for example so a warning that certain things are moving around or will temporarily be unavailable)

Lots of reasons for it when you have quite a few friends and family sharing.

Brilliant idea, count me in.

Be sure to like the first comment. +1ing the thread doesn’t do anything, you need to like the initial post.

Also like the idea of reporting corrupted files with a predefined list of problems

+1 Yes, should have and also personal messaging to anyone streaming.

In addition to sending quick messages to users, I think an editable "Message of the Day" to be displayed when someone joins the share would be useful and maybe similar as well.

MotD might push the scope of this "send server messages" feature too much, but the initial Send Message idea is a "YES!" Sign me up! +1 Vote here.

A MOTD would be awesome as well.

cross platform notifications would be amazing. I would love getting an overlay message on PHT/plexweb or an iOS or android notification while watching a movie if a friend is going to do an update.

That and maybe an offline message for extended downtimes. Like every time someone logs on to plex.tv or opens their mobile app, it would display a custom notice like "Shared Server JD's Media will be down until 12/13/14 due to relocation" or whatever. I know that when I move soon my plex server will be down for a few days. That and when my server died it took me a day or 2 to get everything back up to normal.

All manageable from plex.tv of course!  :D

Just had a drive fail in my raid 10. It would be nice to notify users that it's down.

Cool idea.

I would like it if Plex themselves sent out emergncy messages this way also... XMBC used to scroll news about XBMC at the bottom, if Plex had done that I would have known almost immietly about the huge security issue with versions <0.9.9 or whatnot that happened the other day... instead I found out completely by accident, not good!!

I really like the "report issue" idea also, I share my plex server with a lot of people and I get texts all the time about "xyz is broken" or wrong episode or whatever
