Often times there are 5-8 users simultaneously streaming from me at any given time of about 40 users I am sharing with. And I need to take my file server or plex server down for maintenance. Plex server update, Windows Server update, hardware upgrade, etc.
I don't want to just cut them off without an explanation, and I don't know everyone's username to notify them it's going to happen. (I don't know the person's name of the username I am able to see)
So, if not too big of a hassle, I'd like to see this option put in, when time and resources permit.

+1 to this idea. I've found myself occasionally emailing my family ahead of time whenever I need to bring down my server or reset it for maintenance purposes. Having a way to display this info (or anything I want to share, like upcoming movies or shows, family news, etc) on the home page would be great.
I've been trying to come up with a solution to do this for my remote users too. I plan on archiving old media that is no longer going to be stored in my active storage and it would be nice to notify people in advance that certain items will be going away on a certain date. Something they would see when they logged in, not necessarily overlaid in the app. Icing on the cake would be a vote option (similar to these posts) where people could vote for new content or what to remove to make space for the new content.

yes, please have a system where I can send messages to every user. I currently run a server supporting about 20 streamers at a time. It would be reallly great if I can send a message to let them all know that the server will restart or something.
I've been sharing media with ~20 users and whenever I do something (restart, upgrade, etc.) or the lights go out in my house, I get messages that the plex server is not working.
Can't imagine how much people would complain if they were paying for the service, however, 90% of the people that stream off of me STILL do not understand that everything is coming from a tiny little server in my home, and not some
netflix-like corporation.
I would also love to piss off some of my closest friends. "Oh, you are watching the game of thrones finale? gonna message you spoilers just before they happen in every scene." hehehehehe

I use wunderlist as kind of a maintenance schedule and have it set up to provide push notifications so my friends who I share my server to get them. I was surprised it wasn’t an option when I first downloaded it. Would love to see this feat in the future!
