it’s simply they don’t prioritize client requests, what they prioritize is how to profit. “Life Time” thing is really a bad business model for a poor product management.
I decided to ‘search first’ to see if a similar request existed.
+1 | It would be a handy ‘additional’ feature. Simple text box. Drop down for user selection. Button depress to push notification while media is being played. I believe Tautulli does this prior to ending an active-viewer’s content.
Any consideration is appreciated.
+1 so I can tell users that the content will be unavailable while I reboot my file server.
great idea!
+1 So many uses for this
+1 on this, or a maint mode so playback in unavailable while you are moving data over or something.
another +1

Seems like a really useful thing that would eliminate me bugging family about it
Please any progress on this? Really need this feature. Thank you!
Seems like something that should just have been there. Was surprised I could not find this functionality.
How does this still not exist? The request was opened 10 years ago.
It’s obscene this has yet to be implemented. Super easy feature, and one that Plex itself could utilize to announce new versions/features as an option.
Users should also be able to send a message to the admin(s), which would be displayed in a “messages” section of Settings. Then users could report bad videos or make requests.
This is a very basic feature and should have been in the initial release, let alone TEN YEARS LATER.
Anyone else starting to get the sense that the Plex team doesn’t read or care about popular feature requests?
Not really; though I have a feeling rather few users have been reading (or even noticed) the sticky / pinned post explaining how the feature suggestions category is supposed to work and that Plex will usually only comment if a suggestion is unclear. This post also explains that/why the presence of many votes isn’t the only criteria for items to be picked up.
A much-needed feature. Pretty baffling that this was suggested nearly 10 years ago and still hasn’t been implemented or at the very least been confirmed by Plex to be something they don’t want to implement. 10 years is a long time to simply be ignored.
We already have the ability to push messages to users when you forcibly end their stream. I feel like adding this feature isn’t a huge stretch. Even a simple error message in the form of the “end stream” message would suffice. Just something to let the users know what’s going on.
This conversation has been going on for over 10 years. What’s the status of this feature request? PlexPass users are able to have over 500 viewers. How are we expected to reach out to the viewers to make announcements? I’m not talking about chatting or 2 way communications, just a broadcast message. The email address is replaced by a user name one the dashboard, so there’s no way to contact viewers to announce “Server is back up” or “Server will be down for 24 hours”.
That’s definitely not correct. You can have up to 15 members in a Plex Home (incl. the admin) and share with up to 100 users total (friends, members of a Plex Home in total).
Then again… this clarification doesn’t diminish the suggestion.
“viewers” is different from “members/users” though. plex is not like Emby which limits the viewers according to its device. 1 plex user can have multiple devices. think again ![]()
10 Years later… this is still here. We are still waiting.
We need this more now than ever with Plex adding confusing opted-in options and things we never asked for.
Boy how time flies.
New thread idea:
When did you vote? Was it before your first born?
Today Plex launches in beta a new profile feature to know if your friend watched the latest reality TV episode… while a good part of the community has been waiting for this feature for years.
