Send server messages

That this suggestion is from 2012 and it still hasn’t been done tells me it never will…

+1 Yes this would be great! Especially with new releases on the server or specific mentions.

Yes please,
For maintinance, or simply “set quality to max )

Agreed, this is a super needed feature, which I would gladly keep paying for Plex Pass to have.

+1 for this feature!!!

Crickets…

We already have the notification system please just expose a way for third-party apps to send push notifications to a user.

3rd party or integrated, i really don’t care and whichever option will make the Plex devs comfortable letting us just get a notice to our users, even if its a short one.

99.99% of people commenting here just want to be able to let their fistful of people know the server will be offline for an hour, because you don’t necesarily want to communicate with everyone directly and you also don’t want to leave the impression to your friends that your server is unreliable. the whole point is that it IS reliable and we can all enjoy seamless media sharing, and the lack of notifying people of maintenance is actively working against that principle.

also worth mentioning is that 99% of posters here are server admins. users have no idea what Plex is nor will they ever care. but they know its not Netflix, so if it fails to work once unexpectedly, I doubt they come back.

I also don’t understand why it is so hard to define a few standard answers and then display them when the user wants to access the server and it is offline. This should be easy to implement, since the user always communicates first via the API with Plex.tv, the server admin should be able to specify what the problem is and that shows it then, otherwise you always think the server is offline but it’s just a few updates and a reboot and then it runs again but you get several messages that nothing works and you have to explain it to everyone individually. That is simply unnecessary.

Please PlexAdmins finally does something. This feature is missing now for 8 years!!!

+1… This would be really useful

+1’d this thread 5years ago… still waiting :unamused:

+1 I like the idea and that would be useful.

Would love to see this feature also.

Me too.

+1 but as others as stated it should be implemented as ‘server announcements’ as not all users will always be ‘online’. It could even just be something as simple as a ‘banner’ when they log-in (making it user specific) or before they even hit the login screen (to make it a global announcement).

Seems like this thread’s been alive for quite a while - I mean getting near 900 votes… how many does it take for our amazing devs/mods to consider the request?

+1 would be the easiest way to schedule maintenance on servers !!!

I’ve solved this by using Atlassian’s Statuspage. They have a free tier that works perfectly to advertise and communicate the status of the Plex service for my users.

I prefer this solution more than my Plex server being the primary message relay. Say my ISP goes down, or my server crashes, I can set up automation (using Tautulli) to flip the status of my Statuspage and let people know the Plex service is down. The Statuspage site will be available and users can get information as they need while I figure out why my server may be down.

What the current edition of Plex doesn’t have (to my knowledge) is a place to stuff the JavaScript Statuspage embed notification script. In other words, if I have scheduled maintenance planned, say an update to the Plex service; Statuspage has a graceful way to give little pop-up notifications to users. Plex doesn’t have a great way to embed custom Javascript, and probably for good reasons.

If anyone knows how to do that, I’d be much appreciated.

Why is this NOT a thing yet?

+1 here, so I can send new added content to all my users, Thanks!

+1, It’s a manual and time consuming process to manually manage the contact list from my plex server so I can send maintenance messages via email.
