Send server messages

+1

This is a must have imho, for us people sharing the server with friends, rebooting or reporting folder changes or things like that is something very very missed...

I really need this. Half my shared library users only want to communicate via facebook and I refuse to make a facebook account. I want to inform people if there's going to be an extended outage on one of my servers or change to content availability and right now all I can do is send an email that perhaps half the people using the servers will look at in anything like a timely fashion.

Is this in the works, is it even on the radar? I understand you guys are busy, and you are fixing bugs, and making wonderful changes. I would just like to know if the devs are even thinking of making this happen. Whether it's in the near future, or even in a year+ - Just an acknowledgment? Again, thank you for this wonderful application, and all the hard work you guys do!

I would love this. +1

This would be great to allow to blast your users for any changes of the server and help with setting their speeds to avoid our upload to be saturated, making sure they use a set speed as standard as no bandwidth limit is possible at the moment on Plex shared content with other users.

I cannot see this to be too difficult, I am no programmer, but we have our users details on our server, adding a tick box and panel to write something to send to them should be what we need.  They would receive an email in their registered email address to Plex which is information they already have.

Will look forwards when this feature is added :)

A solution which is based on email is in my view not a solution at all. I agree, solving this by adding an email sendout to the users you want is a fairly quick solution, but it helps little. People do not read their email often enough. Better to use a Facebook group for stuff like that. Or manually send out emails.

The only solution I see is that every Plex client has built in support for showing messages on each devices screen with the message you want to send out. For example "the server is going down for 10 minute of maintenance. Check back soon".

And if you try to access a server which is down and a message was left, that message is what should be shown. For example "The server is not available at the moment. The server owner left a message saying: "Maintenance for 6 hours, check back later"".

Or something along the line of that.

I would love this but, I dont know how they could make that work if your server is down how can it send the message? Im guessing it would only work while the server is active

This would be a awesome feature.

Plex Inc. has already built-in a possible middle layer which would solve this, MyPlex/plex.tv.

In PMS you say what you want all clients to see. When you save it gets sent to Plex.tv. When one of your users open up a Plex client and asks which servers are up, it has to send its credentials/tokens to MyPlex/Plex.tv. When the response gets sent back it could be augmented to send back the messages that is affiliated with that server.

Well, I guess it is possible to do something like that at least.

You nailed it! :)

I hope it isn't bad form to plug a third-party solution for this that already exists (mods, feel free to delete this post if it is), but my Android companion app, nuVue, just added this functionality about a month ago. In addition to new media notifications, which is what it was originally created for, you can send messages to both users that you share you libraries with and server owners that share their libraries with you. If they also use nuVue, the message will be delivered in-app. If they don't, it will be sent via email to the address used to register their Plex account. You can check out the app here: http://nuvueapp.com, and read more about the new shared library features here: http://nuvueapp.com/blog/wait-no-more/. I'm all for this being implemented in Plex-proper. But in the meantime, see a need, fill a need.

seems like a very good app but the lack of ios support will make it useless for many.

A User created something for mass emailing all users, I haven't tried it out yet due to the nature of needing my Plex Username and Password which is a deal breaker for me.  I guess he tried posting it here but got little traction. (for obvious reasons)

I installed the app and even done the payment to allow my friends to use the free app and am finding it great. They all love seeing what I have added.

It works flawlessly doesn't it? Sadly for me and my users I'm the only one with an android phone but any users out there on Android you really can't go wrong with this.

+1 This would be awesome.

I would love it if I could send a message to users, or they could send a message/request to me

So wish this had an iOS version...
