Separate profiles in Plex

Hello,

So I have had Plex for awhile now and I have a free account. I setup shares to different types of accounts. I recently got a bigger TV in my room and would like to share my content. Problem is my kid wants to watch her shows when we are not in the room. When it is later, my wife likes to watch her shows.

When I go into the APP for the first time it creates a linked account and it goes to the master profile. After that is created I switch user and it just gives me a user name. I would like to select that account for say my kid. Then create a 3rd account for my wife. The first account is obviously ALL of my content.

I can go onto my kids TV in her room and have her content play fine. I can go into the living room and have a different access to content play fine. Basically I would like the option to have all those profiles play on the firestick in the bedroom.

Will what I am asking work with the free account or do I have to get the Plex Pass to make it work?

Regards,
RobG.

What you’re looking for is part of a feature called “Plex Home” which allows integration of regular users (of that household) as well as managed users (e.g. for kids whom you don’t want to have their own accounts, incl. parental controls etc.) and fast user switching in your apps.

Edit:
Plex Home used to be a Plex Pass feature but is now also available to regular (free) users.
There’s some differences when using a Plex Home setup for users with / without a Plex Pass… those are detailed in the linked support article (e.g. Plex Pass users can add regular accounts to their home; free users can only have managed accounts in their home).
