i would like to see the ability to have different scan schedules for different content. i want to scan tv every 30 min’ movie once daily, music once weekly.
Did anything ever come of this?
I would love to have this as well.
Especially for content that doesn’t change. I never or rarely ever want to scan it.
I’d like to enable this too. Same reasons, too: music libraries with 150k music files take so much longer than tv ones with 15k and movies with 7k, and it requires updating so much more infrequently, anyway.
You will need to click on the VOTE button at the top of this page. Comments, etc. won’t be used to gauge user interest for feature suggestions.
Done.
I’d like to add to this one by asking that instead of the settings for scanning and updates being a global setting, that instead it is a setting PER LIBRARY. That way you can set the library to update on different schedules, but you could also enable “on disk detection” for some libraries (like TV) but not all libraries (like my Music library which takes almost 26 hours to scan!).
Basically, these global settings should be moved to each library’s advanced tab. Or at a minimum these should be able to be overridden by each library. For instance, if you uncheck “scan my library automatically” on one Library but it is enabled at the global setting, that library should NOT automatically update.
Throwing my hat into this ring as well.
Let’s say I have 2 different categories of media :
-
dynamic stuff that changes daily if not hourly. Stored on the local hard drive of my plex server, with local drive P:\
-
archived stuff I want to keep. Usually I place this on an external location, like a NAS, mapped to drive Q:\
I create a TV Show library and add both P:\media\TVShows\ and Q:\media\TVShows\ as folders.
I would like the P: drive scanned every 15 minutes. So anything that is added or removed gets updated relatively quick.
The Q: drive only changes if I ever decide that I want to keep something from the P: drive permanently. If I do I will organize the shows into plexible folders, and scan it manually. Or have it do it once a day in the middle of the night.
Same for all media types. I may add Movies and Music and then later decide not to keep them. Or that I want them forever. But if I have multiple TBs of thousands of files that never change, then there is no reason to scan them every 15 minutes.
Even if the scan frequency was set to per library, I could create 2 Libraries for each media type, ie “Movies” and “Archived Movies” and then set the archived library to scan at midnight.
