Hey guys.
Since Tone Mapping with HW just doesn’t run buffer-free under my Windows PMS (despite only 40%) load, I’ll probably have to switch to Linux.
Since I’ve never had anything to do with the OS before, I’d like to ask if there’s anything to consider here? Often the realisation comes too late.
Which Linux version is recommended? The server runs 24/7 exclusively for PMS. Installed are an i5 8400 (UHD 630 iGPU), 16 Gig RAM and 6 HDDs as well as an M2, two HDDs via PCIE-Card (ASM1061R-Chip).
The biggest problem: The 6 HDDs are in a Windows storage pool, but ReFS should already be usable via Linux.
Do you think the changeover is possible without any problems or can I expect other limitations?
I actually only want to enable 2-3 tone mapping transcodes. At first I thought a stronger CPU would solve the problem, but even at low load it leads to buffering, especially with WebOS devices.
