Server errors

trying to update plex server and getting this message “Server settings are unavailable” when trying to open plex from plex media server gets this “404 Not Found”, thanks for any help! Tried to update…

If you’ll provide us with more information, I’m sure we can help.

What OS are you running the server on?
What is the version number of PMS you’re using?
Is it local or remote?

You know, the basic kinda stuff…

I randomly have this issue with new releases.
What I have found that fixes this problem is the following
Assuming you are on windows
start task manager and stop all Plex Tasks.
The media server first
then all the PlexHost tasks.
The updater will respawn.
Then start the server manually.
If you are on Linux use the appropriate ps -lax and kill commands to accomplish the same thing.

Of course, you could just re-boot the machine if that does not cause a problem.

@ChuckPA
I have had this issue upon many server updates.
The best I can tell the issue is caused by Python tasks left running after the install kills the server.
Probably some errant channels not stopping when the server is stopped.
This causes an issue for the server upon the re-start attempt.

The procedure I outlined above does in fact resolve the issue for me.

That is my best guess based on what I have seen.

I have provided logs on this issue many months ago and never got any official response so I only have a guess based on the forensics.

And BTW this issue occurred updating to 1.5.5 just about 2 hours ago. LOL.
My procedures DID resolve it as it always does…

Here’s what I know:

  1. I learned of PMS 1.5.5 from the forums.
  2. I see there are issues.
  3. I am replying here now while I’m also in my weekly staff meeting .
  4. I have been tasked with writing this up ASAP.

To file this as a HOT problem, I need information.

Please help me help all of you?

I have all the ears who can help and they know my sidearm is laying on the table

Running Windows 10 Pro 64bit
server version 1.4.4-3495 local

During the install it says the specific account already exists

don’t see the Python tasks running

For me this issue started when I updated to 1.4.1 (I believe as it was the first release with DVR within it)
This was the First post I made regarding the problem.

The new issues have not been that severe but are as this thread suggests PMS basically does not restart properly.

Sorry I have no longer kept logs on this issue…
I did, however, supply Dump files for this as well when I first reported the odd behavior.

This problem for me has occurred on almost all PMS updates ever since.
Maybe it is within a channel or something.

I really have no clue… just speculation

.

RIght here… Right now…

PMS 1.5.5 please

Where do we stand. Please no “it started in the past” (yet).

I have Engineering’s attention and the burden is on me to get them the data.

Help me please?

Can you recreate and capture console output / screen capture for me?

During install file attached plus log file

Thanks for that,.

I double checked and would you give this a quick read? I think it will help you out. If not, we’ll get more help.

didn’t help at all, I tried the Microsoft fix, still getting the specific account already exists every time on install

Just to be prudent, uninstall PMS and then install. While not necessary normally. I don’t know enough of the new Win 10 updates. I have heard of issues with it stopping PMS from starting.

yes just had the new update Windows 10 Creators Update and i guess it did something but i had to start over with everything again, but willing to do it, thanks

Thanks for all help, got it fixed did a repair and update went well.
