Apple TV (can’t find the version, but I just updated the app on the Apple TV)
I’m a long-time “basic” user of Plex. It used to be that as long as I had the external hard drive plugged in and started the server up, things would “just work”. That doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. The issues started in the Spring of 2023. After an update, I could not longer play some of my media on Plex. This summer, I tried watching things on Plex again; only 1 of 2 libraries showed up that time. There is a very unhelpful error message (screenshot attached).
I tried deleting and rebuilding the library, but it didn’t fix the problem. I tried logging in/out multiple times, and that didn’t solve it. I searched the forums, but didn’t see anything that was the same issues as mine. I thought maybe an additional update was needed (I had been doing all updates previously), and when there was no update available, I closed Plex and figured I’d deal with it later.
Later has arrived.
I’m not a person who understands code or the magic which makes computers and software work. My Plex library (separate folders for Movies and TV) is located on an external Hard Drive. I can play any of these movies / tv shows directly through the hard drive via QuickTime or VLC Player.
Can anyone tell me why (so I can avoid triggering the issue in the future):
- My Plex library isn’t updating? The scanner runs but doesn’t seem to find new content. (I added a new movie to test the theory, but it didn’t appear.)
- My TV library isn’t found by Plex, even though it’s in the same place that the Movie Library is?
Can anyone tell me how to fix these (related?) issues?
