Server settings are unavailable after updating Plex Media Server Mac

Server Version#: 1.29.2.6334
Player Version#: 4.87.2

Starting to get quite irritated with Plex now… The past few days have been spent updating, downgrading, re-installing, restarting etc etc. What’s going on with these updates lately? Everything was fine till Plex asked me to reset my password after some data was apparently leaked last month or so, since then it’s been nothing but problems… Why can I no longer access server settings unless I downgrade to Plex Server 1.29.0? There’s been plenty of updates since and none of them seem to fix it and allow me access to the settings anymore. If I could just stay on the older version I would, but I’m finding that with the older version, although I’m able to access the server settings once again on the server, I then have to sign out and back in again on the iOS App each time when I’m outside of my home network before it will see my server. The web version wont work at all remotely, just keeps saying app.plex.tv us unable to connect securely. I’ve got a friend who can access it fine though which I can’t understand.

Should I just delete my entire account and start from fresh? It’s a ton of work given the amount of content I’m trying to share, but I’m concerned that after starting over that the problem will return and I’ll be back where I started.

I’m running the Plex Media Server on a 2012 Mac Mini Server on macOS Mojave 10.11.6. It’s been working fine for years prior to that password reset request.

Sorry for the rant but it’s starting to really get on my nerves.

That’s a sign of potential database corruption. If there’s a schema update required for a release and database corruption exists, the it can’t be updated. It may appear now that things are fine on the earlier version(s), eventually other problems will occur.

In you server logs, check in Plex Media Server.log for the words corrupt or malformed. Their presence likely indicates database corruption, in which case you’d need to restore from a backup or repair the current one.

You could also post your server logs here and someone could have a look on your behalf if you aren’t comfortable digging through logs.

Thank you.

Please attach the entire set of log files. This snippet is unfortunately from just the latest server log which doesn’t show the server startup (where you’d see the error). It’s likely in an earlier server log, if it exists. Sorry I wasn’t more specific in my initial request.

You can just download the logs and drop them in a post and they’ll be available for download. Thanks.

All fixed. Updated the Mini server from Mojave to Catalina which cured the settings issue, even on the latest Plex release… Then quit the Plex server, deleted a file called cert-v2.p12 from ~/Library/Caches/Plex\ Media\ Server/ and then started Plex back up again, a new cert-v2.p12 appeared after a few mins and immediately the other problem with devices being able to connect securely was resolved too. Thanks for the help.

No problem, glad you got it working!
