Version 1.29.1.6316-f4cdfea9c results in "Server settings are unavailable."

HELP! Updated to the latest version and now “Server settings are unavailable.” I have read similar posts but none of these fixes seem feasible. Need this fixed ASAP. Thanks

Same for me. I accepted the update just now and now I also get “Server settings are unavailable.” Would be happy to provide log files but don’t know how to access them. I tried (backing up first) fiddling with the .plist file, and that just made things worse, so restored that and rebooted and at least I have access to my libraries again. Plex Web: Version 4.87.2

I was able to fix this by downgrading to Version 1.29.0.6244-819d3678c

Not sure I can trust future upgrades. Will need to get in a habit of backing up the app before upgrading. Hopefully this issue is fixed in a near future version

I also have this exact issue on my Mac Mini (late 2012) running macOS High Sierra 10.13.6
It is some old hardware and the OS cannot be updated any further, perhaps Plex has reached it’s limit for my hardware?

I also have a backup server on a windows machine that did not encounter this problem

edit: I have reverted to version 1.29.0.6244 which has got me up and running again.
I used the rollback instructions in this post:
https://forums.plex.tv/t/how-do-you-roll-back-plex-server-on-a-mac/737969

I’m running 10.14.6 on a Mac Pro. What is the officially supported Mac OS with this latest release?

having same problem as everyone else with 1.29.1.6316. server settings unavailable.

downgraded PMS back to 1.29.0.6244 and everything works fine.
running on macos high sierra 10.13.6.

I have the same problem too since 1.29.1 beta with two servers on macOS 10.13.

Plex server requires:

Plex really need to update the requirements on the downloads page.

as in the release notes it says:

and that has been the case for almost a month now.

v1.29.2.xxxx was released, does anyone know if that has fixed the “Server settings are unavailable” issue? I’d rather not try to just downgrade again.

I have verified that two stable versions work on 10.14.6 and my x64 Mac Mini (2018)

PlexMediaServer-1.28.2.6151
PlexMediaServer-1.29.0.6244

That should be enough to get a number people through the holidays.
I wrote up how I do a brand new install in another bug report.
If you run into problems, create a new Topic on the forum (with a lot of detail).

To do a downgrade though, you just stop PMS and drop the older version
into /Applications and Replace like you always do on a Mac.
If you run into problems, start a new topic.

Older versions can be found on Mac Filehorse, and you can compare your hashes to mine. If you were to drop those zips onto Virustotal.com you would see they are clean too. My original zips I got from Plex hash like this:

$ shasum *universal.zip

Any updates on when this issue will be fixed? Has anyone confirmed if updating to the latest Mac OS would help? I can’t stay on an old PMS version forever.

MacOS 11.0.0 works with current builds.
10.14.6 or lower is unchanged (last working is 1.29.0.6244).
MovieFan.Plex has commented in other threads that the effort is in progress.

When Apple and Homebrew stopped supporting 10.14.6 and earlier, that put a nail in the coffin for our older systems. It’s probably time, I dunno.

Looks like my system can run 12.6.1, any idea if there are issues running the latest PMS on it?

I haven’t spotted any reports about PMS on 12.6.1. So you’re good there.
The new beta has been great on my Studio this last week, but I haven’t tested it on older x64.

Going to 12.6.1 and PMS-1.30 over the Holiday season is a lot of changes I personally avoid in the Fall. I just want things to work till after New Years, but Mac’s are tough. While they can take the changes smoothly, Apple tends to do strange things to encourage us to buy new hardware like revoke the license to an older MacOS so you can’t install it.

So I would clone my Mac HD to a USB drive or another partition on my internal drive and experiment on that. My cloning software is SuperDuper, and I could not give them my $20 fast enough

Just a update and info for those of us on the old macs running 10.14.6. I tried updating from version 1.28 through the web app as a regular normal update to Version 1.30.1.6497. The release notes have a comment on a fix for this situation.

On first try doing a normal update, it failed for me and it still gave me the error message of server not available.

I then stopped the server and downloaded a fresh copy from the plex website download page and manually installed plex. This did the trick. And I can say that I am up and running again. Version 1.30.1.6497 on a old but good iMac running 10.14.6 Mojave.

Time to what, buy a new computer??
I’ll let you know where to send the check ;O

After resolving the issue of "Server settings are unavailable” (that myself and many other Plex users with a similar situation were experiencing beginning in October 2022 after downloading the public 1.30 update) by copying and reverting to a version of the 1.29.0.6244 that I had on an external boot drive - I noticed yesterday that the version 1.30 server was now available for public download. Experienced the same issue immediately - so I reverted back again. In mid December 2022 in the only thread that was allowed to remain up regarding this problem, a few posters with Plex Passes and the ability to download beta servers wrote that the 1.30 update “seemed to resolved” this issue for them. After which, the moderator closed the thread stating that the problem was resolved and that all the rest of us who were not signed on to Plex’s OPTIONAL paid service would have their issue resolved in January when Plex released 1.30 publicly. Well it turns out that that wasn’t the case. At the time, I felt that being able to have a working server with no issues should not be seen as a benefit of paying for Plex or the ability to download betas. That could imply that I needed to pay 4.95 a month to have a working version of Plex and I don’t believe that Plex would support that implication.
Anyhow it’s been many months and the bug has not been fixed. Perhaps it’s just me, missing something or improperly configuring my system - but I don’t think so. I did quit and re-start my server after downloading 1.3, but don’t remember if I restarted my computer at the time

The fix is in the latest beta that has been out for a while. I think that will be made public next week if things go to schedule

  • (macOS) Some endpoints could return errors on macOS versions older than 10.15 (#13946)

I don’t know - the issue was with 1.29.X
Plex just released a public Version 1.30.0.6486 which didn’t fix the issue. One of the most annoying parts of this trouble is Plex’s vague, confusing, and (as far as I know) lack of an official response to an issue that has compromised and created significant a segment of their users for many months now. We’re only getting random speculation from some of the moderators/plex “employees” here, which I personally find to be unacceptable.
