It would really be nice to have that added Admin feature to Kick, Pause or even Stop the access to a user/friends that we have connected vs deleting them to turn off there access... As a parent I think it would be a great feature to have in the user setting being able to click on a active user and setup access time schedule controls, and turning back on say unactive user access say for that teen who just got grounded and just lost there access for a week or so,lol...
Basically I think having more control over who and when access is granted to any specific client user/friend/family member in the house or outside the house having the options for a 30 minute timeout or 1 hr, etc... whatever. Having that type of time out or turning off option like a access scheduler giving accessanytime or on certin days and times would be nice. It would prevent the kids from staying up late on school nights if there user profile could turn off access at a certin time vs having to turn the whole PC off thats running Plex. Thats just my input on the subject.
Really good suggestions, there has to be better admin controls forsure!
I was under the impression that, since what I was asking for were more tools for administrators to use to admin the server I was making a single request with examples of the tools needed by the administrator to do a comprehensive job. That request was locked, and I was told to post each example as a separate request.
When some clients are streaming and those clients some how crash, they seem to lock the server into a "Now Playing" status to the crashed client. There aren't many methods to disconnect the "stuck" session, and many times the administrator does something that worked once and isn't able to get it to work again. If the session involved transcoding it seems to lock the server into transcoding the video in a loop.
Blacklists are needed to prevent Plex Pirates from ruining our systems. It's unacceptable that a server platform that has been around as long as Plex hasn't already put tools in place to eliminate the potential risk. Third party add-ons are also unacceptable for platforms that can't easily install them or have had ports to that platform.
(I know this is actually 2 different requests...)
This would be a great feature to add to plex. I was getting on here to request this feature and i saw this post!. As a former server admin, i can second that this is a valuable feature, and it will help those users that are serious about there bandwidth, gamers and so on. Great feature request.
1 vote here too this is a needed feature asap!
+1 vote, something I’ve thought about a long time.
Agreed, this would be great to have.
+1 We need this asap.
+1 for all the suggestions
I would also like an option that limits a user to be able to have only ONE active login at a time - one one of my friends has shared her user login with her boyfriend & mother.
Can someone share how to ban IPs - is this done on the router?
Doesn’t the IP address always change for someone on a mobile device?

Even though you tell your friends not to share their credentials, there is always one of them to do it.
I would also love to restrict access for a user to a defined list of devices. (So that we don’t have to mess around with IP tables, which is not working if the user travels a lot)
+1 kill remote activity!
I would love to see this happen as well.
+1 Here for more server controls.
For all posting “+1”:
Please remember to ‘Like’ the first post. This count is also very important.
This makes me friggin bananas. We need admin tools before we need the Plex server to run on my Maytag dishwasher.
A way to terminate or kill a stream would be great. Sometimes users just pause and leave plex like that for hours or their client has crashed can’t tell. Either way, transcoder keeps running and keeps it alive

You will definitely get better admin tools before Plex runs on the dishwasher.
I had two roku users yesterday, both pause for hours. The transcoder will have completed its job for the entire film. Then one of them decided to swap to a second film, then paused that after only a few mins . End result, transcoder completed 3 entire movie’s, using up server resources for ZERO reason. ( As well as the extra power consumption, HDD’s cant spin down during this “quiet time”,so extra wear and tear also)
If we cant kick users, can the server at least be set to cap how far it transcodes ahead on job once the user hits pause? Im set to throttle back after 240 seconds (4 mins), how hard would it be at this point to check if the job is paused or not? if paused stop the transcoder??
Yes, this would be great, paused sessions will end after XX minutes. I see my friends pause stuff all the time and it stays in now playing for 3-4 days… Drives me up the wall.
I think that this would be a great feature.
We could have an “X” at the top right hand corner when looking at what the user is streaming.
If you click this “X” it would then say something like “are you sure you want to cancel the user connection”
with a Yes/No option if you click yes it would terminate the users connection.
This is an important feature. l like simple stupid. Most do not know that you have to click the like on the original post in order for it to be counted. I just learned myself. To bad it did not automatically add (click on like button on original post below to vote) to original post heading. Server Tools - Kicking a user or stuck client (click on like button on this original post below to vote YES)
I would love to be able to restart or block / unblock an IP or user when they get stuck or any other reason.
Plex gives users more control than owners and that is quite odd.
