If you maintain your database on a non-OS Local Drive you re-install Plex after your OS, aim it back at your database and poof… done.
(“The path where local application data is stored” - Settings/General)
(“D:\Plex Files” … for example)
If you hose your database when you hose your OS, poof, you’re rebuilding your Plexiverse.
Two options, pick one.
(go for option one - 4 time loser here, 3 under option one- whew, much faster)
Here’s some articles that may help:
Registry Settings:
Backing Up Plex Media Server Data
PMS Data (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server):
Where is the Plex Media Server data directory located?
Moving Movies, Shows, etc:
Move Media Content to a New Location
Thanks ill install PMS on my 2tb Drive, Server and all the appdata , So when i do image backup or remormatt pc everything will still be there correct, I just down load plex install it and point it to where i have all the data correct ?
No… PMS wants to be installed on the OS drive with the OS.
The Application Data is what is stored elsewhere.
You’ll need to re-install PMS once the OS is back up and running, but then you aim Plex back at your Application Files and away you go… everything right where you left it.
Thank You very much i gotcha
Never, ever move the Plex data folder to a network share/NAS.
It’s a recipe for data loss.
I eluded to that, but it just can’t be repeated often enough.
“Local Drive” means inside the box <— for absolute clarity.
