How do I fix the buffering? I have a hard wired dedicated tower. Specs are all as good or better than the recommendations. Gigabyte hard wired internet and my friends still get buffering and not on 4k. I don’t have an issue at home. What setting can I tweak to fix this for the people watching outside the home? This just came on and I’m afraid I hit something to screw it up
The most likely culprit is that your server does not have clear connection to the internet. If you have not done the proper networking (port forwarding), then people who connect to your server are likely forced to connect using Plex’s own relay service, which intentionally throttles video streams to around 2 Mbps or so. This is obviously not a good thing to do, as it means your server will only send out streams at that speed, regardless of the size (bitrate) of the video (hence, buffering).
To tell if this is even the case, examine the Plex dashboard to see if your users have the “plex relay” (!) warning mark seen here:
Note the yellow circle and exclamation mark on the left device. Note the text indicating “Indirect - 1 Mbps” text, which tells you the user is throttled to that speed.
To fix this, make sure remote access is enabled on your server. It should already be on by default, but just in case take a look at if you have remote access enabled. If it is not working, the Remote Access Troubleshooting article has loads of suggestions and troubleshooting steps to begin narrowing down the culprit.
If it is not an issue of remote access, let us know, and we can look at other culprits.

So I have another issue that’s settings related and I don’t know what I might have clicked to mess this up. So the only way I can get my clients to direct stream is to disable video stream transcoding. However on my local tv, that prevents any SD videos from playing. The only way to get SD videos to play on my local is to disable video stream transcoding. How do I get back to where all the versions work and are direct stream on all players? I’m sure it’s something under the transcoder or quality settings tabs
