should i build different pc for plex and another for gaming

should i build different pc for plex and another for gaming or just build a gaming pc with lots of storage

I currectly have my tv shows and movies on a 2tb external HDD i have already used over half of the 2tb external HDD and have not ripped most of my collection yet so i need more storage

Watching TV is the thing i do the most

I also want a system that can handle 4k hdr blu-ray rips when that becomes possible

I am also the only one who uses my plex server

Any part recomendations would be great help

Also does plex transcode incompatible content every time you watch or just the first time you watch that piece of content? I always run my content in handbrake so i have never seen for myself because all of my current content is compatible so it uses direct play but when i get more storage i want to stop using handbrake as much because it takes forever to finish.

thanks for your help

I use the same system, and even when running Plex, don’t have an issue with gaming/framerates.

Anytime a computer has multiple duties there is the potential for adverse interactions. It is best practice for any server to have no other duties except those directly related to performing the server function.

While it is possible to run other programs with Plex and Plex is designed to be as non-interactive with other programs as possible it is just not a good idea to run other programs, particularly programs that are processor or disk or network intensive, on the same platform with your Plex server.
