Does Plex truly shuffle all music? I’ve got about 20 days worth of music and about 15% of it is in compilation albums. In the past, I’ve tried Library Radio but it doesn’t ever include any compilation albums (Assuming it is because album artist is Various Artists. Song artist is populated with the actual artist but I guess it only uses album artist?) so I haven’t enjoyed it that much. I finally decided today to create a playlist with all of my music so that I could just dumb shuffle all of my music. But it still doesn’t include any of my music compilations when I shuffle. Does anyone know why that would be the case? I feel like I have my music tagged pretty well but am I missing something?
Look…if I could open a ticket with Plex support to figure out why my music won’t shuffle properly, I would. But unfortunately, there is no Plex support…so I’m relegated to strolling into this Mos Eisley cantina to ask for help.
Could I at least get a Plex person to respond to my query? Is there something I need to tag differently? Is this a known issue and there is nothing I can do about it? Any feedback would be appreciated.
For a mix of everything, I thinks it’s best to first display your music library by Track, then select shuffle. This should give you the experience you’re looking for.
check here, you probably have popular tracks in your library, you can disable to prefer those in server settings
I haven’t tested it on library radio, but you can adjust this option:
RadioDaysSinceLastPlayed
integer
When playing a Radio or Smart Shuffle, Plex prefers to include tracks that have not been played recently. This sets that “recent” period (default is 2).

My guess this is more a problem of that Compilations don’t tend to have popular tracks which makes this not playable by the smart algorithm.
I recently switched to a library playlist that I shuffle play with smart shuffle disabled, no problems getting various artist compilations to show up.

…I didn’t even know that was a thing.
I do really wish that Plex would evaluate song artist instead of album artist so that I could take advantage of their Radio when the mood suits…but very happy shuffling is working.
