At night we like to select a show and hit shuffle so we can fall asleep to our favourite shows. Every night I will get one or two episodes I watched within the last week; and the rest have been watched within the last month. Meanwhile there are hundreds of episodes marked as unwatched. I’ve tried marking all episodes as watched, and then unwatched with hopes it will work properly.
Can this be an option you can look into?

Why can’t they make the shuffle truly shuffle the folder I’m watching; why do I have to watch the same episode every other night when there are over 200 episodes and 160 are unwatched after 7 months?
I agree the shuffle algorithm is terrible almost like it shuffles but always ends up with the same order.
A bug in the shuffle algo has recently been identified and fixed. It will find its way into one of the future server software updates.
In the meantime: did you activate the ‘Unplayed’ filter in your library?
And yes, as a workaround, create a smart playlist which has “Episode unplayed = TRUE” as a condition.
Only downside is that you’ll have to reset a whole show manually to ‘unplayed’, once all its episodes have been played.
I’ve tried the ‘unplayed’ filter and it seems to work well. It took me a minute to figure it out though
