I’d like to see this feature become available on all clients. It could simply enhance the current Shuffle method or be presented as a second Shuffle Unplayed/Balanced icon. Currently, shuffle ignores the Played/Unplayed status and ends up replaying many of the same ones over and over. Maybe it is actually random, but it seems to be less random and more repetitive.
My wife likes to shuffle play The Big Bang Theory on her account for background noise, but we watch and keep up with the show on my account. She complains to me that Plex ends up playing the same episodes over and over even though she has over 100 she hasn’t played under her account. I did see this post and I took the time to setup a playlist for her. We’ll see if this can workaround the problem. Shuffle unplayed Episodes from a TV Season
I think an improvement to the shuffle feature could look like one of two things:
- Shuffle prefers randomizing unplayed content over played content. If all content is played, then falls back to random.
- To the best of Plex’s ability/history/hit counter, Shuffle could “balance” content plays within the account. The randomizer would first retrieve the list of content in ascending order of play count, group by that play count, and randomize within each group starting with the least played item group first.
