Alas any issues are relatively minor beyond the HomePods issue, but thanks anyway.
To be fair @herman_munster (who I want to apologise to, as I let my frustration get the better of me) nailed it with using Infuse. HomePods and AirPods work 100% of the time.
As a side note it’s now over 4 months since Plex reproduced the audio dropouts with HomePods.
With Plex previous track record on Apple devices there’s no reason to think anything will change in 2024.
dunno what to tell you then.
i have 2 of the current gen, and the only issue i have is the one reported with high bitrate HDR/DV content that causes thermal throttling.
all other content plays correctly as it should - which is a mix of SD, HD, 4K content either ripped by myself or downloaded from usenet.
as i have mentioned elsewhere, if jellyfin had a decent client app i’d be off like a shot.
Whilst Infuse does work for playback, it does have issues with it working as a plex client in terms of library organisation.
Have you tried Plex direct mode in Infuse by any chance? If not (or you’re not on the beta) it’s scheduled to go to a store release in the middle of next month.
i’m not on the beta, but i did read about this possibly coming at some point
i’m on the infuse beta now.
enabled plex direct mode, and to be honest i’m not overly impressed and it doesn’t really fix any of the issues that infuse has with connecting to a plex server - from what i seen it actually makes it worse.
so on the infuse home screen i can see my up next row, recently added films and recently added tv shows - which is all good.
however there is a row called “favourites” which simply has an icon with the name of the plex server… going into that simply dumps you into a bare bones way of then accessing the libraries, with the main problem being that it doesn’t use the collections that exist in the plex library.
example, i select the “movies” folder from the server in the favourites row, it simply lists every move in name order ignoring the collections those movies are in (i have the “group films into collections” setting enable)
what i was hoping and expecting is that there would a row listing the libraries that gave me access to them which also respect the collections within the plex server.
also, clicking on a cast or crew icon doesn’t seem to work at all - just the “move along nothing to see here” message.
i get that it’s a beta but from what i’ve seen this is meant to be quite along the road and due for imminent release, but from what i can see plex direct mode does nothing other than not create a local library that syncs the data from plex.
what i want on the home screen is this (no idea if it’s going to be possible at all)
row 1 - watching
row 2 - icons for each of the libraries i want to display - movies, tv shows, comedy etc etc
row 3 - recently added movies
row 4 - recently added tv shows
rows 1,3 and 4 are there, row 2 i have no idea how to display, and for it to correctly display the contents of the library.
It’s quite along the road in its basic form to a store release (because it’s being requested heavily) but all the tweaks (bearing in mind there’s slight nuances in direct mode between Plex, Emby & Jellyfin) are to come later. That includes Plex native collections I think.
If I’m understanding you correctly if you go to settings >Shares and then click on your media server it will give an option to add more favourites.
Here you should see all your Plex libraries.
Long press any/all the favourites you want to add, this includes playlists if you already use them in Plex.
They will then display on the home page in favourites (alongside the one for the whole server)
If you prefer not to see the icon for the server you can long press and hide it right on the home page.
Worth mentioning too is the hamburger menu which will allow for tweaking and reordering things on the home page.
It’s getting late here but after my shift tomorrow I’m off for a few days so can hopefully get back to you with any more questions you have.
Quick edit… The cast and crew definitely works here so if you’re still having issues we can look at why that’s not working at your end. I’m actually going to re-add my share when I get chance as it seems in todays beta a lot of the stuff we had to do manually now seems automated, so I wanna start from scratch.
Probably though it’s best to take this to PM if/when we continue…or on the Infuse forums of course.
Resuming a paused watch together session does not canceled screensaver on the atv.
You will hear audio but still see the video of the screensaver.
Just went to try and play something for the first time in the beta and it’s refusing as it’s not detecting my subscription. Pressing restore just does a jiggle and nothing more.
Uninstalling the beta and reinstalling the public build the restore button works fine
Replied in PM
Or watching anything in 4k lol
Well it seems they either filled the vacancy or just removed the ad for the “Senior Playback Engineer” for Apple devices so there’s hope still, if it’s the former!
I have been a frequent contributor in the “Video Suttering” thread referenced by Tion1. This is a real issue that has impacted many users and has also been reported in numerous Reddit threads. I’ve tried every possible setting change in Plex and on the Apple TV and nothing has solved the problem. I have abandoned the Plex tvOS app and only use Infuse to play my Plex videos on my Apple TV. With the new Direct Play feature, Infuse replicates my Plex UI and works great. Most importantly it plays every video in my library perfectly with no issues.
it doesn’t replicate it 100% quite yet.
still quite a few UI issues and features not currently supported.
I agree that it doesn’t replicate it 100% and my preference would be to use the Plex tvOS app but until they resolve the stuttering video issue with the Plex app, the Infuse app is a very viable alternative.
The Plex client on Apple TV has become effectively unusable for me due to playback stuttering, lip sync issues, and so on.
Infuse has none of these problems, and this is why I use Infuse exclusively now.
I DO want Plex to fix their Apple TV playback issues! But it’s been so long now that I have little hope of a resolution. The playback engine likely needs a complete rewrite. I think it’s not a big priority for Plex, and that’s probably why it’s not getting done.
A plex employee has chimed into the discussion in the other thread to let us know that they are currently working on the issue.

Hopefully they are true to their word and they don’t think that the stutter issue is the only issue on Apple Devices.
Meanwhile Infuse have now incorporated native Apple Profile 8 playback in their latest beta.
