That may actually happen before Plex have a fully featured and fully working tvOS app.
apart from a few minor quirks the tvOS plex app works pretty as it should for me.
I have had 0 issues with the tvOS app for about 5 years, what is wrong with it?
Then you clearly both donât own AirPods and HomePods nor (possibly) the latest gen Apple TV.
Me too. It took them three attempts back in the day but they actually finally nailed the UI. On the plus side if they now go on and screw that up the very last reason to stay with Plex will be gone.
Undoubtedly.
I donât not own a HomePod, I have a soundbar any my home audio is via JBL speakers. I do not have AirPods either, I have Sony headphones. I have the latest Apple TV, I have 3 4K Apple TVs of all different generations and none have any issues, ever.
Indeed. Plex themselves acknowledge openly they have all sorts of issues with iOS devices and have for years.
I work around the issues but they exist.
Then you are very lucky.
I just canât use the Plex tvOS app anymore to play videos on my Apple TV 4K 3rd gen (2022) since version 8.18 because of a serious playback bug affecting everything. This bug still isnât fixed, it will be a year in April.
i do own the latest ATV, and i do own both airpods and a homepods.
however i donât use wither why the ATV? why would i when the ATV is connected direct to an Atmos capable soundbar.
please donât make iâll judged and wholly incorrect assumptions just because it doesnât fit your narrative.
i did say the ATV apps has a few minor quirks (one that has been acknowledges by plex, eventually), but apart from that it does what i expect it to do.
that bug doesnât affect playback for ALL content, only DV/HDR higher bitrate content (from my testing anyway), and that issue is included in the âminor quirksâ i mentioned in my original post.
apart from that it works as expected, your use case may differ though.
the plex app is in a different league to what jellyfin offers though.
the solution, to opt-out of first party apps for both Plex and Jellfin, is to use Infuse - but that isnât perfect either.
If thatâs a minor quirk then
And sorry I must be doing it wrong by not owning an av system or soundbar.
Audio cutting for minutes at a time with HomePods or any other AirPlay device is not a minor quirk. But hey I wonât distract you from your shill narrative either.
Read the thread I linked. This payback issue does affect ALL content, not just HDR or higher bitrate stuff.
Itâs not minor, it prevents proper playback of all videos on the latest Apple TV 4K model.
Itâs doesnât affect him so therefore this or any issue doesnât exist or is simply a minor quirk.
stop embarrassing yourself with the âshillâ nonsense.
iâve youâve taken a look at any of my posts youâll see iâm very critical of plex
well i have 2 of the latest ATV models and have no issues playing content except for the acknowledged issue with DV/HDR content that causes stuttering during playback - which has been put down to a thermal throttle issue.
any other content plays perfectly for me on both devices.
Youâre talking about a different issue. The thermal throttling thing is something completely different (with its own dedicated thread). And so you know, if you read the thread I linked, the playback issue Iâve been talking about that makes it impossible to play any videos properly on the latest ATV has been acknowledged too.
Two issues can exist at the same time, and just because youâre not personally experiencing one doesnât mean it doesnât exist.
And now Iâll stop talking about this here.
as i intimated earlier in the thread, the solution to pretty much all plex issues, be it app bugs or feature creep is to use Infuse instead.
sure that app also has some issues, but it means you donât get any of the plex âfeatureâ issues, and content generally plays as expected.
its not impacting me either, but id be happy to offer help to anyone as to why that is the case. Any test files available I can see? I am on the latest beta of Plex for the tvOS/server as well.
As I donât have HomePods I canât help with that problem.
As itâs potentially âcontentâ driven could it be old HDMI cables that donât support HDCP 2.2? (completely spit balling here). Or maybe the other way around⊠donât use cables that support HDCP 2.2? Iâm 90% sure my cables are 2.2 compliant.
My setup currently is HDMI Arc to JBL 9.1.2 soundbar (and HDMI out to Apple TV).
I donât know exactly why some are experiencing the issue while some other people donât. The only certain thing we discovered is that only the latest Apple TV 4K model is affected (3rd gen - 2022). Also, this playback issue is software based as it was introduced with version 8.18. It was impossible to reproduce with version 8.17, as tested by myself and other people.
May I invite you to comment in the thread dedicated to the issue if you think you can help?
This is the one that has all the issues. Currently my 4k is telling me my cpu isnt powerful enought to direct play, not transcode direct play, a native hdr video on my apple tv. But my i9 has zero issues transcoding it for a non 4k apple tv or any other device in the house.
