Hi, does this go away if you enable the old audio engine in the app settings?
Hey Chris.
Sadly it seems that to add to the stutter issues (and HomePods audio dropout issues that you are looking at) it seems that since the stable tvOS 17 release thereās something else going on.
I have seen reports for both stutter and even a video of HomePods audio dropouts that are in no way connected to Plex.
Just home from a night shift but if it may be of any help I can test over the next few days to see if using the old audio player (which have always cured both issues) now still leads to the stutter and/or audio dropouts.
Yes. The OLD audio engine makes it playback normally, and āsoundsā the same to me.
Whats new in the engine?
Can you confirm thatās on stable tvOS 17
17.0 (21J354) is the version and no I never run beta OSes
Same here.
A lot of stutter (never had any before) on apple tv4k last gen, last plex app and TVOS 17.
Unfortunately, using old audio engine is not working for me: still stutters.
Tried every possible settings combinations (on plex app and apple tv audio/video settings) but nothing worked.
Was working pretty well without stutters before TVOS 17
(old player in plex settings gives me a total black screen)
Second that. All fine before tvOS 17. No changes in my setup.
For me itās only HEVC video playback that stutters. And itās easy to reproduce: After pausing or rewinding 10 secs or more, the playback is immediately in slow motion or with video stutter. When i watch the video from start to end without pausing or rewinding, itās working too.
The stuttering actually has returned, even with the audio engine setting change
Still happening with server Version 1.32.5.7516
Infuse player plays back fine I should add still.
I just reported same thing. Is there any ETA for the fix? Is it possible to join TestFlight somehow to test out beta version? It says itās full.
I have not found a workaround outside of Infuse player yet:
SERVER: Version 1.32.5.7516
TvOS: 17.0 (21J354)
Plex Apple TV App: 8.25 (1), reported in settings.app. 8.25 (6861) in plex.app
Also started having this problem with stutter on HD media where I didnāt have it before. Infuse (still) works fine.
Server Version 1.32.6.7468
Plex Client 8.25 (1)
TvOS 17.0 (21J354)
Apple TV 4k
Hi
I am also seeing stuttering. I have included media info of the file/video I am struggling to play, even though it works in Infuse:

same issue here.
seems to only occur, for me anyway, with high bitrate content with high bitrate audio.
Same issue on my end
99% of my library is in x265 codec, and Iāve noticed that recently, the HDR content player is causing audio cuts, etcā¦
Itās quite crazy, considering that this seems to have been an issue for about a year now! Canāt be too impatient for a viable patch.
For now, switching the playback to āconvert automaticallyā solves the problem, both audio and stuttering. ![]()
@chrisallen Hello Chris, sorry to bother you, I just wanted to ask your opinion on an annoying question for me. I bought the last gen Apple TV 4K two weeks ago and Iām experiencing a lot of stuttering regardless of whether the media is in H264 or HEVC, 1080p or 4K. I have relatively little money, but I really like watching TV, so I had to save up to buy what I was thinking the best streaming device to use with my Plex Pass, but that doesnāt seem to be the case. Do you think the problems with the video player on AppleTV will be fixed soon, or if I should resign myself to returning the Apple TV while itās still possible for me? Thank you so much for the work youāre doing, and hoping that in the coming months Plex gets back to the basics of why we love the product, being able to hassle-free listen to our personal libraries without a lot of fuss⦠Waiting of your news. Respectfully. H4p3rD
Itās very weird how a third party app like Infuse can literally play anything Direct Play, smooth, no stutters, best audio support too, no issues at all, but Plex app which is actually their core feature/product isnāt able to achieve the same thing. Pull yourself together, Plex team.
