Significant hard drive activity

Server Version#:1.14.0.5470
Player Version#:various

I am running Plex on unraid server and for the last couple weeks every morning one hard drive is seeing lots of reads. I stop the plex docker and the activity stops. I turned off all of the automatic scans hoping it would stop. The only thing on disk4 is movies, and I do not have anything from that drive synced to devices. I have no idea where to look in server logs to find out what is causing the disk activity. Any advice appreciated! Plex Media Server Logs_2018-12-14_09-44-08.zip (3.2 MB)

Do you have “Scan my Library automatically” set in Settings - Server - Library ?
If so, do you have anything which writes there?
PMS will detect directory date/time stamp modification and start a scan of all subdirectories .

And adding to @ChuckPa here:

Also check Settings/Scheduled Tasks

thanks for suggestions, here are my settings. Strange that this started happening at random. Have not added anything to that disk in a long time.22%20AM

According to the logs, you do have scheduled tasks enabled!

Dec 14, 2018 02:04:06.025 [0x14a356bfd700] DEBUG - The butler performed loudness analysis on 1 albums.

If you disabled butler scheduled scans, I strongly suggest a restart afterwards

And adding to self…

Search for job in the PMS logs

Did not realize loudness control was even a feature in Plex. I unchecked that and will see if the unexpected hard drive activity stops. Thank you!

after 2 days, the unexpected hard drive activity has stopped. I think the “generate video preview thumbnails”, “generate chapter thumbnails” and “analyze audio tracks for loudness” were to blame. I had not looked through server settings after a couple upgrades I guess, would think those would be unchecked by default. Thank you for your time, server is back to normal!
