simonjhogan's PLEX Client for LG Smart TV (webOS)

I managed to rename Plex, but to which icon-file do I have to refer to?

By the way I had to use (within the folder) the command:"ares-package PLEX-for-LG-Home-Theater-master/WebContent" instead of "ares-package /~/PLEX-for-LG-Home-Theater-master/WebContent", so without the "/~/"

I have understand that in the .json file, "icon" will refer to the logo in the smart menu (actually it is the icon of the app).

On the other hand, "largeIcon" refer to the logo in the top-left corner when Plex app is selected.

If your write for example

    "icon": "plex-icon.png",
    "largeIcon": "plex-large.png"

you have to put 2 images, one called "plex-icon.png" and the other "plex-large.png" in the root of the folder unzipped at step 7)

I mean you will have in you USB : developer/apps/usr/palm/applications/[Name_of_your_app]/plex-icon.png

[Name_of_you_app] is the ID of step 3)

Thanks Apollonaute. I got to the step of putting the app onto the flash drive but my LG 49UB8500 TV is not loading it.

Step 10 says:

10) Sign in to the TV with your webOS TV Account

What account is this referring to? I tried to login using the user name and password that I just created for the LG developer account but that did not work. It kept telling me invalid email address.

Next I tried the LG account that I created when I installed my TV a few days ago (the account that let's me purchase apps).

This did not work either. My TV can see the flash drive but the app does not load.

When I log out of my LG developer account I see this message:

14800751579_4095c3cb62_o.png

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Of note, speaking of video formats compatibility, I tried multilanguage MKV, 1080p, either 3D OR 2D, with multiple audio tracks either AC3 or DTS or AAC and it all seem to be pushed via directplay to the 47LB730v, however it keeps recognising the presence of srt embedded subtitle but trying to display them puts out an "integrated subtitle not supported" message.

Any clue?

It is really not working at all. It's an issue after the last update past week.

Ugh! I guess I picked the perfect week to purchase an LG TV.

Finally got the app running on my 49UB850V. Can navigate through the app fine and play music without problems.

However, video is not playing. When selection a tv series episode and pressing play nothing happens.

If I in the settings tick the "use external player on direct play" option and start playing the video, it looks like the video is loading but then the app crashes.

Anyone else experienced this, or have any advice on what to do?

Can you please tell me what version of WebOS you are running?

You can put this in your appinfo.json in order to add background image, splash background as well as tile color:

    "icon": "Icon.png",
    "largeIcon": "largeIcon.png",
    "iconColor": "#262525",
    "bgImage": "plex-bg.png",
    "splashBackground": "plex-splash.png",

here are my files.

Thanx, looks very good indeed  :D

hello everyone!

I am interested to find out if the Plex media server part (not only the client) could be installed at the some point on webos lg. let me explain why I am asking I have a apple airport with a 2tb hard drive and I will to be able to use plex to browse the content of it. so plex media server connecting to my airport in afp or smb will be awesome. ps: I know I could have a pc or make doing it them have the plex client from the TV connecting to it but I am looking after having everything’s done from the TV, I don’t want to have a pc/Mac always on for this. thanks in advance for your answer!

Run a Plex capable A-grade NAS like a Synology or Q-nap...

Thanks for your answers I should have said without buying extra hardware… i don’t need your judgement on what I have bough or not…

I have the same issue. I tried almost everything but the app doesn't show up at the TV. Is there any solution available for this problem?

It's been a while since we heard from Simon, hope everything is going well...

I've been watching his video showcasing the interface of the client on 2103 LG System and I noticed that the interface is much bigger, definetely more couch-friendly.

Probably when resolution of the interface was changed from 720 to 1080 (due to native resolution difference form 2013 to 2014 OS) the placheholders of thumbs etc remained unchanged, and as a result the interface on webos TV is supercrisp but as well far too small.

Any idea to solve this? Are placeholders dynamically assigned in the code, definied by relative numbers or absolute pixel dimensions (I guess the last one!)

So would changing proportionally size of placeholders resolve the "micronized" UI issue in a simple way?

Or is it more complex, maybe the PMS does not make thumbs in 1080p-friendly sizes?

I dont'find it now but I remember vaguely that the upgrade from 720 to 1080p was not done by Simon himself but from someone else...

One more thing: I compiled an app on August 4th and it was workin perfectly. With the last update, exact same accouint, procedure, TV, USB stick and everything the app does not load. The shortcut is created in the UI but the app does not load.

Am I the only one experiencing this? To my luck I kept a copy of the previous release.....

I've also been unable to load up Plex since the LG update this weekend, but I haven't had a chance to see if recompiling and running through their DRM scheme fixes the issue.

No, doesn't matter! Even recompiling it won't work! I did it.

Mumble... good news is I'm not mistaking the procedure myself, bad news is that the client becomes unavailable and we do not know why....

someone else started it I finished it ... I am yet to look at a fully optimised webos version ...

Hey guys,

after buying a WebOS TV I've been following the discussions and developments and, now running the App myself I have to say it is heck of a difference speedwise compared to the Web Version I used before, thanks a lot for all the explanations and effort all of you put into making this work!

Now with the App running on the TV I was wondering whether it is possible to have the WebOS app show up as a MediaPlayer in the PlexUniverse, enabling the possibility of browsing content on Plex for Android and remotely have the WebOS app start playing?
