simonjhogan's PLEX Client for LG Smart TV (webOS)

someone else started it I finished it ... I am yet to look at a fully optimised webos version ...

This is my optimized version for webos.

I changed the size of texts, icons, left column, progressbar, covers, etc. as well as the position of the previewContent (bellow the recentlyAdded instead of on top of the menu). I hope I didn't break any functionality.

Also the source file is from july I think.

Don't forget to put your own ID in appinfo.json before compiling.

On firmware 04.00.13 the app takes a varied amount of time to load - from 5s up to 2 minutes. This started about 2 weeks ago and there is no obvious reason.

It does eventually load however. Playback and browsing are unaffected.

Suggestion: When this app is finally through certification, optionally binding the playback controls (rewind, pause, play and fast forward) to the 4 coloured keys on the 2014 magic remote would be a great addition.

Great app so far.

Any plan to add the server part on Plex Directly in the app?

Now available in the LG app store!

Now available in the LG app store!

Where? Do not see it in The Netherlands.

Looks great Simon, congrats on the release....and purchased :)

Perhaps we should setup either on here or on the git hub a "vote for new feature" setup? That way you and those who are helping develop can figure out what people would like to prioritize? i.e. MyPlex connections (the shared connections), subtitle features, etc?

Where? Do not see it in The Netherlands.

Looks like Plex is only available through the official LG TV App Store, which isn't yet here in The Netherlands. Looks I'm stuck with the beta right now. Still working great.

Wow, Simon, you did it! I’m so happy it all went right! I’m in Germany right now, I’ll be back Monday and immediately purchase your app. I have not had yet the possibility to test the revamped user interface proposed by yepecece, did you consider the UI size problems in the app that went on the store? Hope you’ll keep working on your marvelous creature!

Purchased, thanks for the hard work writing it and then going through the whole store approval process!

Hi crahsHouse,

i have been using the LG appstore for Webos for months now, i don't understan that you can't see it.

i just installed the LG app from the UK store. I too live in the Netherlands which was not included in the LG list.

I had to make a second LG account, switcht to UK on the TV (agreed on a lot of screens) and logged in with that.

Hello. Bought your app on your TV LG LB720V. After testing a couple of days I had a few questions:
1) It is planned to translate the panel to sort by genre, year, etc. Directed by in other languages?
2) Are there any plans to introduce more detailed setting media gallery (size selection of covers and the number on the display tv)
3) When you close the subtitle movie begins to play again, and subtitles remain. What could be the problem?

PS: Sorry for my english

Thanks for the program, bought it yesterday. But subtitles in movies are not switched and not switched off (Error:2).

Hi Simon:

Why in webos tvs the subtitles are wrong and bigger than the screen and how can i fix it??, transcode reduce the quality of the movie...

Sorry for the english...

Hi crahsHouse,

Got some answer from LG The Netherlands. They don't support the paid options, hence no Plex. So they pointed me Smart Share Arrggggg!!!!! St...pid C...ws! So I asked if it will be an option in the (near) future. Tried to switch to the GB Store, but I got stuck in the process.

Ok here’s my take on the plex client available on the LG Store:

Positives

  • everything seems to work: subs, audio, file details, even tv show background music!
  • most if not all file types may be sorted and filtered
  • search is available
  • plays files without problems (hanging, etc.) so far
  • faster than plex connect on webos
  • controls are well laid out and easily to accessible while playing a file

Negatives (are a bit of a letdown)
  • menu and interface are not in HD perhaps a necessary choice to speed up loading- so the entire thing minus your actual shows are blurry. The sample screens on the lg store are actual screens. They are that blurry.
  • big files particularly fast scenes show noise and artifacts along edges of moving subjects/scenes. They are to me very noticeable. Plex connect is clean displaying the same file and scenes.
  • I noticed that colors are off and brightness dimmer by a few stops. Skin tone on a movie (resident evil retribution scenes during 10min run time mark) I was watching was too red compared to the actual files viewed using plex connect. Iron man 3 is dimmer as well (both large 3D files).

So for US $4.99 you at least can play smaller files w/ some issues (color inaccuracy, edit: also dirty edges) and get to see your files organized when navigating plex as you would in your Mac or PC.

I have a MacBook Pro running the latest OS as my server and play it on a 2014 LG 50" 3D with webos.

Simon hopefully you address some of the aforementioned concerns in your future updates.

I live in the United States and I just noticed that the PLEX app is now available at the LG store. It was featured on the home page. I just purchased it for $4.99.

I have only been using the app for 5 minutes and I have noticed a bug with subtitles. The disable subtitle feature is not working and if I exit the app while a subtitle is on the screen the subtitle does not go away.

I can confirm the issue with deactivating subtitles. Apart from that everything is working perfectly fine, thank you very much Simon!

How did the app go through such a lenghtly approval process and finally get approved with such a major bug?

Until the subtitle bugs are fixed the app is pretty much useless to me.

Any idea when you will have this issue resolved?

Thanks.
