Looks very promising, unlike the new PMP release.
Please charge (a bit) for it. You need to eat!

I don’t have a 5.1 setup to test with, but my understanding from testers is that it will direct stream Dolby surround, but DTS will be transcoded to Dolby. So you’ll get surround sound, but it won’t direct stream DTS.

I can confirm that DTS gets transcoded to Dolyby Digital. All my media is encoded with DTS audio.
i notice a difference when in transcoded audio from DTS-- do you as well?

That’s the way Plex works on today’s Apple TV. When an action movie is in DTS I used to be tempted to use another device with Plex to get the DTS, but I’ll be honest; with my 5.1 surround system my ear really hasn’t been able to discern the difference between Dolby 5.1 and DTS. A better audiophile can probably argue that.
I would agree, there’s a difference. I prefer DTS, the voices seem more pronounced. But to be honest I love just using one device, the Apple TV. So worth the trade off for me and transcoding audio doesn’t tax my server at all.
Who knows, maybe Apple will add DTS to the Apple TV someday

Right, so far I’m finding its worth the trade off to use Plex on the Apple TV.
Quite happy to pay for this when it hits the app store.
I agree - more than happy to pay to support you.
I notice it, too, which is why I’ll be ‘forced’ to stay with the Roku.
It’s easy enough to switch devices with my Harmony fortunately ![]()

Looks brilliant, thanks for doing this. I just borked my PlexConnect system pretty successfully so I’ll be after something from day zero that can hook directly into the PMS system (which is still working perfectly).
In case anyone’s curious, my PlexConnect system I have is probably fixable. With less than a week until ATV4 orders and roughly a week until delivery, it’s just a case of choosing the path of least effort. AirPlay from a perfectly working iDevice Plex client will cover the gap.
Just adding here that I’m also happy to pay for the app.
Let me know if you need another tester. I have hardware.
Is it just me?
Why can’t I find this thread in the Forums/Third-Party-Clients/Others directly? Why do I have to use search “Simplex” every time? Where is the forum’s root for this discussion?

Hmm, yeah I also can’t see this thread in the category. Shows up in “Recent Discussions” ( https://forums.plex.tv/discussions ) but not in the actual forum. Very odd.

For all you with hardware, can you please tell me if the old (apple TV 3) power cord works with the new Apple TV. Sorry for going off-topic for a moment.

Yep, it’s a standard figure of 8 style power cable.
sweet! can’t wait to try this!
Does the Apple TV 4 do the decoding now of .mkv?
If you’re still looking for testers, I have a devkit
Same here, if you are still looking for testers, my devkit is ready
