Please can we have an official Plex app for the 4th generation Apple TV. I assume it could be adapted from the new iOS app fairly quickly?
This is the new one that was announced today right? The dev beta for tvOS opens today! I think Plex will be awesome on the new Apple TV with that swiping remote. I hope Plex will become an app that returns results to the voice search stuff they demoed today.
I also hope that they will be able to be included in the voice search but with the way the said that “they” would be adding more in the future, makes me think that this is going to stay firmly in apple’s control, and not just an open api.
Do apps need to be specially coded for tvOS or does apps for iOS work on the new Apple TV? Either way, would love to see Plex on it.
+1 for this. The only way I’d consider buying Apple TV is if Plex could go on it and the playback experience from the server to it is seamless.
Id love Plex on this device. Especially with that awesome unified voice search.

I have been using a gen2 and gen3 apple tv with plex connect for a couple of years now and even on wireless the streaming is flawless, so I imagine with this new box it’ll be even better
I only want this Apple TV if Plex is on it. I would love, love, love (times a million) for it to be as equally integrated with Siri as their demo was, but that may be a pipe dream.
I agree with everyone that having Plex on the new AppleTV with Siri voice commands to get to all of the media and having the swipe gestures would be amazing.
It would allow people who don’t have a PC connected to their main screen TV or don’t want a Roku, Android box to have the big screen experience using an AppleTV.

Ok, I would like to add that I would love Plex mobile sync to work with Apple TV, if the API supports it. I know this may sound strange but hear me out. This would be idea for an in car system, so I don’t have to worry about the kids dora droping out when we hit a dead spot on the highway. Also for going to places with spotty internet coverage. I would love to load up my apple tv with content before we head off to the lake in the summer time.

Apparently the API will not allow for sync to work as there will be no local storage available, that is disappointing.
I would be very happy to see Plex on the new Apple TV 4! Hopefully there wouldn’t be too much work needed to port the iOS app code to tvOS.
I am a bit disappointed in the hardware specs - specifically only HDMI 1.4 and 10/100 Ethernet (apparently it isn’t even a gigabit port). I think the 1080p will be fine for now. With the advent of the AppStore for the Apple TV 4, hopefully Apple will do an annual hardware update instead of the 3.5 years between 3 & 4.
But will the ATV4 be able to play all the same formats as PHT on a mac-mini. I’d love to swap the mac-mini for an ATV (or other smart box), but PHT on a computer is the only plex player that can play all formats without transcoding.
Looking at the ATV4 spec, I doubt it will.

From my interpretation of the documentation, the app is limited to 200mb but i think it can still access local storage.
Would love the support of Apple TV (hopefully including Siri support).

+1 for ATV. Correct me if I’m mistaken; you won’t be able to stream 4k from the Plex server to this without transcoding correct?
