Simpsons DVD version Playlist?

I have 2 versions of the Simpsons, one are my DVD rips and the other are a more modern 1080p version, I did try in the past to just mux the commentaries on to the newer version but they did not match and I just gave up. So now I have to “choose version” and select 480p to get to the dvd rips which is fine except I want, like the dvds, to be able to play all with commentary but I cant find a way, I feel like there should be a way to make a playlist that only has all the 480p episodes and at same time choose the audio track. I was able to have to separate versions of the Office but that is only because the Supercut episodes have a separate title. Any help would be great.

You could try to make a second Simpsons folder, put your DVD-with-commentary episodes into it, and then use Plex’s “Split Apart” option to create a second Simpsons entry in your Library. Name it something different, change the description to indicate the low quality visuals and included commentary. Should be easy then to make a playlist that plays the one show.

Thanks! But I cant seem to get the split apart to show up, Both versions Folders have different names. One is 'The Simpsons" and other is “The Simpsons DVD Edition” and I am not getting split apart option, any clarity would be great.

You need to ensure that you are on the preplay page of the whole show, not just on the episode or season preplay.
The quickest way to get there is to click on the show title (“The Simpsons” in this case).

Then you will find the action in the ellipsis … menu.
Do not use the “folder” view mode.

Thank you! I don’t know why it didn’t work last night but this morning it worked fine.
I’m going to change the commentary to the default audio for the DVD versions and all will be perfect.

Also found out just how hard it is to convince Plex to play the audio commentaries by default. I found a program which I will link below that does a great job of batch changing aspects of the file. I can go and change all aspects of the audio tracks but it doesn’t matter if I set the commentary track to default or forced Plex will not cooperate. What I had to do was set the normal audio to undetermined language and the audio commentary not only to forced and default but also to English. Once I did that very easily with this program for every one of my files, it works. Splendidly.

Plex pretty much ignores all flags on audio tracks except language. They ignore the “forced” flag. I think they even ignore the “default” flag.

Then, when a person plays a file, the user’s “account setting” for language determines what audio track is picked automatically. It picks the first track - numerically - that has the same language as the user’s setting. If none exists, it picks the first audio track - numerically - in the file.

So for the Commentary editions, it might be best to simply swap the position in the file that the two tracks are, or even delete the original audio entirely (I’d suggest you leave the original track though, and swap the two).
