I have a lot of my family footage (images and videos) and I want to play them in the playlist/slideshow. On other devices this feature is available out-of-the-box, but not on AppleTV.
Is there any plans to introduce such a basic feature?
There were many topics on this forum and none of the Plex employees addressed that problem.
Plex soon will introduce new layout for their applications.. What are the plans for AppleTV? Will we finally see that basic feature?
@Craig_Holliday , @hsousa - Are you able to reply in this threat?
The beta of new app is there, but I cannot access the beta program, because it’s full.
Can you confirm that the slideshow functionality finally comes to AppleTV?
Okay.. Maybe @RuudBurger - can you tell me if the slideshow and play next video automatically features are coming to the new Plex experience on AppleTV?
It’s a shame that you are buing a Plex Pass (Lifetime) and don’t get any answers from Plex employees.
Functionality like slideshows with images and videos would most likely be in the new Photos app.
This app does not have a TV version released yet but all photos and adjacent video content will be available in that app.
Thank you, Craig, for the answer. I really appreciate that.
To the point:
Oh, great.
As far as I can see, the Plex Photos App has only been released as a Beta for mobile phones, and since the initial release (in September), there have been no updates. The app lacks basic features like slideshows and the ability to download photos. Not to mention that the app only sometimes works.
Realistically speaking, the development of this app is nonexistent at the moment. Plus, there is no guarantee that Apple TV will even get its own version before the launch of the new regular Plex app.
In a nutshell – the current player is imperfect and lacks basic features for viewing personal photos and videos, and now Plex is releasing a new player that will have even fewer features, or basically no option to view your personal media. MAYBE Plex will release a dedicated app for viewing private photos, but even on mobile devices, this app is still in an early alpha stage (not even beta).
Great news, Plex… You are very consistent in killing off the features that helped this product grow.
At this rate, Jellyfin – with zero funding – will become a better solution in the very near future.
