Smart Collection Display

I have a large smart collection I just made for TV shows and the listings seem to be a mix. I assume this has to do with the multiple directories that make up the TV library this collection is based on.

I don’t see a way to resort the listings or even change the display of the collection to something besides poster view. I’m trying to sort them so they are all alphabetical like the original library’s view. I can set the sorting on a manual collection but there’s no option for this on the advanced settings of a Smart Collection.

To change the sort order of a smart collection (or smart playlist) you have to edit its filters.

You can then change the sort (right drop-down) to one of the available options.

Once done, click Update Collection to save the changes.

Note that it applies the sort based on the characteristics of the item selected by the middle drop-down (shows, episodes, etc.).

This doesn’t seem to be working for me. The display when I am editing the filters and the display when I view the collection afterwards are different.

And then after I save it…

The series shown in the Edit Filters screen are all present in the Collection display, but they are scattered throughout the listings, instead of at the top like they should be.

Edit: Just now made a plain collection with the same rule, and it defaulted to Relase Date sorting (which does not match the Smart Collection sorting, just to cover that). I changed the view on the plain collection to Alphabetical and the results almost match the Smart Collection when I’m viewing it on the Edit Filters View:

It seems like a colon changes the alphabetizing differently when you are using the Edit Filters function compared to Plex’s normal library view.

I was able to reproduce this and correct it. Edit your test smart collection. Then, change the sort by flipping By Title to descending then back to ascending (select it twice). After saving the change it should sort correctly (it did in my case at least).

Ah, that worked for me too! Thanks!

You’re welcome, glad you got it sorted! (See what I did there?)

Well, I take that back actually about it being fixed.
The top few rows were correct, but the later titles are wrong order still…

Edit: I stepped away to watch the end of the regulation play on the Super Bowl, and came back and now everything is correct. Very weird.
