So the new updates have all but eliminated the ability to stream .mkv files

I don’t know why but now after the past few updates, streaming my .mkv files no longer works. It just buffers and then stops. All my other files work as they should

Mind sharing some more details? I have pretty much all my videos in matroska containers (mkv) and haven’t seen any issues with those…

What version of PMS do you have installed and on what platform?
What player are you using and do you experience the same issues with other Plex apps?

90% or more of my videos are also in .mkv containers and I have no problems. More info is needed.

I am running the latest version and my desktop is my hub for streaming. This is happening on my rokus. All the other files run no problem but the .mkv a will buffer for about 3 minutes then fail

What operating is the server running on? Is it on a NAS device? Windows box? Linux? What are the platform specs? Give us the server version number (Settings > SERVERNAME > Settings > General). Do you watch on anything other than Roku(s? plural?)? Have you tried the web player (app.plex.tv) to see if it also happens there?

Do you get any error message in the player?

I will get the info when I get home. Yes I tried it on the iPhone app and the same thing happened

So I am running Plex off of my HP desktop. I have checked through the settings and everything is set the way it should. I just tried again today and my mkv files are completely unusable. The buffer at 13% and then eventually fail. They used to play fine, but now after several updates they don’t play at all. All other files run as they should

Every mkv file is now unstreamable on my Plex. Ever since the last update

Which exact release of PMS did you install on that HP machine? I guess this is a Windows machine?

Same experience using a different Plex app (e.g. browser or desktop Clients)?

Are you running movies with subtitles in them? Some subtitles (or all of them if you turn on “forced subtitle burn-in”) require to be burned into the video. Some computers may be barely able to process videos as-is, let alone twice (once to burn a subtitle video track, and then again to combine that with the base video).

So, I ask again, what are the specs of the server? We can probably tell you if it’s hardware-related.
