I just noticed skip credits feature. But I don’t get the point. When I wanna go to the next episode I can just press NEXT. It’s even faster than skip credits because it also skips that totally useless and annoying 10sec delay page. When I want to stop playback I can just press STOP / X. So why would someone use skip credits? It feels like the most useless feature Plex has ever introduced.
some examples…
- not all platforms have a “next” button.
- skipping credits doesn’t necessarily skip to the next episode but allows you to jump to post-credit scenes
- Plex considers the start of the credits when marking an episode/movie as watched
Even if it’s useless to how you use Plex… that doesn’t mean it has to be useless to others.
That’s why I’m asking ![]()
Not entirely sure where to take feedback on this… After using it, I’m a little confused on the benefits as well. I’m on mostly Roku.
If I use the Skip feature: When I press the Skip button, I am taken to and stopped at the next episode’s load screen. I can achieve the same results by pressing the back button on the remote.
If I do not use the Skip feature: The credits roll, a 15 second countdown occurs, and the next episode loads.
I guess the part I find most interesting/befuddling is that I when I interact more, there are forced stops. When I do not interact at all, it proceeds forward automatically. I would hope for precisely the opposite… If I press the Skip Credits button I would want a tangible benefit for doing so. As it stands, it’s only added a new button for something I could already do.
Mostly, the use for it is in the mid/end-credits scenes. Modern movies and some shows (anime) have scenes that air after some or all credits. Plex tries to detect these, and can create markers to skip the text credits. If you trust the algorithm, you can use the skip credit button and it will jump forward to the credit scene. Then, when the scene is over, “skip credits” appears again, to skip to the next scene, etc etc. If there are no more credits, then skip credits will take you to the end of the file.
I’m finding the skip credits to be… laughably wrong in about half of my use so far, now that my server has finally churned through it all during my nightly maintenance (and two full days of forcing credit detection on two of my TV libraries).
