Server Version#: openSUSE Leap 15.1
Player Version#: It does not matter for the question
For many years, I a subscriber and user of the Plex, my home server is set up fully autonomous automatically updating automatically, with the exception of Plex software.
I do not want to persuade Plex to do RPM under the Linux version that you decided to ignore, a lot of them are enterprise level or exotic, as a rule.
Also, I can not use Ubuntu and other extremely uncomfortable and home Linux versions.
I would like to ask Plex to publish software updates in binary form and provide an opportunity to receive notifications about the release of a new version through the API. Then I would be able to automate the creation of RPM packages for SLES, openSUSE, Oracle Linux, Redhat and CentOS.
This would greatly help me personally, as well as provide an opportunity for other users who have hands and know how to do automation, never again update the server by hand.
Yes of course. The installer can be fully universal, but there is again offered a manual installation. I’m talking about creating a fully automated update system. At least as a minimum for myself, as a maximum for other users of Plex.
Can I now add the RPM repository for SLES, add for cron command luke ‘zipper up plex’ and forget about manually updating the server?
No I can not! Because:
No plex repository
There is no compatible repository used by me Linux.
There is no permanent unchangeable link to the latest version of the plex server.
It is not possible to receive a notification about the need for an update on any link. The notification is displayed in the interface plex for manual updating.
I am an automation and continuous integrations specialist. And I just want to save myself from manual work with a home server, because manual work is bad.
There is also a different approach to updating software when once manual installed, plex updates itself by downloading a new version from your server. That is, the application itself takes care of the latest version of application. But the Plex developers did not go this way, so I would like to automate the Plex update path through the repository and CI/CD systems.
