oh wow thanks for the info… let me digest it and try to figure out where is messing up.
Please check my logs. Can’t find answer anywhere.
Server Version#: 1.13.9.5456

Some movies are giving error “Conversion failed. A required codec could not be found or failed to install.” when I try to play them on the Plex Media Server (which opens up in web browser) or the Fire Stick Plex app. They are playing fine on the Plex Media Player app on both windows and mac.

hi @sa2000 so the docker is hosted on my unRaid server here are the settings you was asking for, for the tmp folder “/mnt/disks/FD/appdata/PlexMediaServer/transcode”
i’m also running the docker on a single HD and not on the array using a plugin called Unassigned Devices which just mounts a HD to the server outside of the array. i’ve read that because of this i dont need to edit the /etc/fstab file but i guess its still throwing an error.
Thank you for your quick response. I looked at the linked article.
When it says:
- In Windows Explorer, rename or move the following directory:
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA
What exactly I have to do, like ranem the RSA folder to something like RSA2 or just delete the Microsoft Folder in the appdata.
The suggestion to rename is because that would be safer option in case you want to put things back as they were
The intention is to get windows to recreate that folder. So deletion or renaming. May need reboot
Nevermind. I was able to move that folder user farmanager software. Thank you. The problem is fixed and the all files are playing now.
Thanks for the feedback - may be applications were using the files at the time. Probably to exit all applications and then rename
@sa2000 Would you be able to look at mine please? I’ve had a few friends report this error when attempting to FF/RW or restart an item from a previous location.
Thanks!
edit: Error was reported to have happened at ~2:18PM in the logs.
Thank you. Can you tell me about the S: drive - where the transcoder temp directory is. What sort of drive ?
This was the logged error
Nov 27, 2018 14:18:27.810 [10036] ERROR - [Transcoder] Could not write header for output file #0 (incorrect codec parameters ?): No such file or directory
and the path that the transoder writes to would be within S:\Plex\PlexTranscode\Transcode\Sessions\
Any Drive Pool ? Is it an SSD ?
There has been a change in 1.14.0 to do with seeks - where it was leading to deadlocks. I would like to see logs of this when running 1.14.0 as there were some changes
So please upgrade to 1.14.0.5470 and let me have fresh logs of this error - again please let me know the time of the error
Edit. Text removed as was for wrong forum thread !
The S:\ drive is an SSD that’s just used for Plex, no Drive Pool (for that drive).
I’ll update and get you some new logs. Thanks for the look!
Here is a fresh copy. Error reportedly happened around 1:51pm. Thank you!
Thank you very much. So it happens very easily when seeking ? or also resuming later from specific point?
I am referring this to the development team
On the positive side that before 1.14.0.5468 this gave rise to server deadlocks and needing server to be restarted to be accessible. Now this is fixed and this secondary issue is now coming to the surface
I started my own thread but no one has responded. I have this same issue with my server running on a WD PR2100 NAS. Can someone take a look at my logs? I recorded a movie off Live TV last night and it won’t play, but the raw file plays fine on my Windows PC.
Yes, while it doesn’t happen to me at home (I’m assuming because Im generally not transcoding), it happens almost universally to friends. Once a show is stopped, it’s almost always unable to be resumed. And the same goes for FF/RW.
Thank you. It is the same error as seen in logs from other users when seeking - but in your case there was no seek.
Can you tell me if this error is only when playing specific videos?
The error shows up in the Plex Media Server.log files as
ERROR - [Transcoder] Could not write header for output file #0 (incorrect codec parameters ?): Invalid argument
and
ERROR - [Transcoder] Error initializing output stream 0:1 --
Thank you for the reply. Yes, it is only when I try and play Miracle on 34th Street which I just recorded from Live TV a few days ago.
