SOLUTION FOUND FOR ALL PLEX related issues!

I really gave PLEX alot of time and tweaking and even as a tech guy, I knew it was, well not done baking… Great product, bad coding.

SOLUTION - remove both the server and player.
INSTALL - https://emby.media/

Testing shows Emby beats the snot out of Plex. Hands down better using their Beta player release.

That is your opinion but I have tested and used both and I find that Emby is a LOT poorer in most all respects than Plex at its worst.

The designers of Emby seem to have zero idea of a user interface that has a reasonable level of usability on any client I tested.

The server works OK but the clients are way behind the field.

Of course everyone has to make their own choice but I believe that Emby is just too far behind the curve, at this point, to be viable for my use.

I also cannot get into the Emby client “look” but the better it gets the better Plex will get.
(well that’s how competition is supposed to work!)

So everybody try Emby - and don’t forget to report back!

I run both, but for me Plex beats Emby hands down. The only reason I would maybe move to Emby is the live TV functionality but I’m hoping Plex will add that at some point.
My thoughts:

  • Plex has much better look and feel in all of their clients. My main client is the Roku and while the new Emby client looks a lot better, it’s still pretty clunky and every time I use it, it tries to upsell me to their Premiere subscription. Every single time.
    • the Xbox client needs Premiere as well and is clunky to navigate too
  • I’ve not had any playback issues with Plex, last time I had a playback issue with Emby the only way to fix it was to remove and recreate the library. That’s pretty drastic…
  • their flagship Windows client requires a subscription, whereas Plex can be bought as a single purchase.

Some server settings are pretty good though and I like the fact that functionality like Trakt is much more integrated in the server, but for me Plex is still miles ahead.

Emby!!! What a joke. Caveman code in that camp…

This is what they call a douchebag move. Advertising another platform on Plex’s site. It doesn’t matter how much better you think it is.

Hogwash.

My only requirement is when somebody can’t stand Plex enough to move to something else, what they move to is actually better than Plex and they provide a download link.

LOL

All indications are both of the aforementioned personal media solutions have the same problem - hideous User Interfaces. If you move to a new pile of dung you have to get used to a new group of beetles, but otherwise not much has changed so why bother?

Better the devil you know - and you don’t have to invent a whole new set of work-arounds.

Err no mate. If I wanted to go to Emby, I’d go and try Emby. There’s absolutely no need to ADVERTISE a competitors product on the companies website, luring people in with a clickbait threat title. That’s just called being a ■■■■.

Emby has a NEW BETA UI.

Pay attention next time. I am sure most of you are referencing the yes, agreed, OLD clunky UI.

GL to all, this is my last Post. Use what you want, I found working solution that required no tweaking.

Taken his little Bat and Ball, now he’s going to hide and not play. A new beta, that explains everything with a test UI full of bugs.

@rocam1981
Do you have an issue with Plex. I mean, a technical issue we may be able to help with?

What about a solution for all Emby related issues?
SOLUTION - remove both the server and player.

OP seems like the type of person who enjoys throwing firecrackers at a chicken coop.

Ok I’ll bite. I tried Emby recently. It’s not bad. However I couldn’t uninstall it fast enough when I was forced to watch a 15 second ad to buy a pass, and a lifetime pass is only guaranteed for the coming 2 years.

No thanks, Plex has been good to us and I have never had an issue the awesome forum members couldn’t solve.
