Has anyone done a recent analysis? I enjoy Plex and have for a long time, but from time to time I like to try other things to see how they stack up. Emby is the only real competitor if you plan to share with less that savy tech friends. I was wondering if anyone had a recent side by side comparison? I tried Emby about 2 years ago and it was beyond unstable. I just spun up a new Emby Server to try to see the differences as I am getting tired of basic features missing from Plex. So ya, would love a discussion or links to articles if they exist (new to 2017 that is).
Relatively Emby has gotten closer to Plex in overall quality BUT it is still WAY behind. Mainly some simple things like editing a single entry to fix sorting or grouping is more complicated in Emby than it is in Plex. There are many other cases where something simple in Plex is by some measure harder in Emby and very few that are easier.
I would use Emby, most probably, if Plex did not exist but the fact is Plex does exist and continues to be superior.
I should note that my use case is very simple in that I am the only user and I never use any form of remote access. The only thing somewhat complicated is that my library is kind of large. But there are many here with larger libraries.
Bottom line is that for me Emby works BUT Plex works quite a bit better.
I test Emby about every six months and have yet to find a reason to switch.

Ya, and I probably won’t either, I just get so frustrated with the simple things they just don’t fix that I want to find something better. Like, simple stupid things like ordering your libraries or collections or granular Home controls. Just stuff that should be fixed by now. Or the fact that the Roku and XBox have not seen an update in like 5 years lol.

I don’t know about the XBox but Roku receives regular updates with the last being just a few weeks ago.
The main Roku developer has been, ever since he was hired, one of the most responsive and active developers at Plex. And one of the best as well.

Sorry, more referring to the left to right awful UI decision they made way back when that still hasn’t been fixed.
Xbox on the other hand has all been abandoned.
