[SOLVED] Bad Signature Trying to Update Plex

Getting this error when trying to update plex on my 32 bit laptop.

Tried updating the signature with:

$ curl https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-keys/PlexSign.key | sudo apt-key add -

But that makes no difference, the error still occurs.

Seems to work again, at least on my rig.

Not working for me. Message is the same.

Yep, seems to be fixed. I Just updated successfully.

Not working for me either.

I’m getting the error at 3:38 pm CDT.

OK. It’s fixed but not entirely fixed. I successfully updated two pi systems earlier today remotely. Both had been giving the bad signature message at 5AM this morning, but that problem went away.

Just got home and tried to update a 32 bit laptop and it now doesn’t give the bad signature error BUT nothing updates. It stays on 993 and acts like there is no update available.

It’s like there’s something wrong with the 32 bit repo.

I am still seeing this issue.

@ jaymz668,
try

wget -q https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-keys/PlexSign.key -O - | apt-key add -

Recommend adding sudo into the apt-key

that did it. Thanks

Also having this error :frowning:

I’ve tried several iterations of commands in this thread… console keeps saying OK… but apt update still producing the error.

apt-key list shows this:

pub rsa4096 2015-03-22 [SC]
      CD66 5CBA 0E2F 88B7 373F 7CB9 9720 3C7B 3ADC A79D
uid [ unknown] Plex Inc.
sub rsa4096 2015-03-22 [E]

Reinstall the key. what you have is corrupt. “unknown” should never show

Easier said than done, figured it out.

Could not figure out how to remove it, I had tried that previously via GUI. Click remove button on the Plex key, and it didn’t nothing. So I came here. After your comments… I doubled down on that direction and did some googling.

Removed the repository itself… still couldn’t remove key.

:sudo su
:apt-key list
:apt-key del 3ADCA79D

Using last 4 characters of the key. Then reinstalled using the two commands from: https://support.plex.tv/articles/235974187-enable-repository-updating-for-supported-linux-server-distributions/

Good now!

Running Ubuntu 19.04. Ran apt update today, and received the GPG error described above with regards to the signature being invalid.

Have already tried everything identified in this thread, including the last one from 14 July 2019 suggesting direct removal of the apt-key. Deleted plexmediaserver.list from /etc/apt/sources.list.d/, then re-enabled the repository following the instructions in https://support.plex.tv/articles/235974187-enable-repository-updating-for-supported-linux-server-distributions/

Still receiving the GPG error stating that the signature is invalid.

The output of sudo apt-key list:

pub rsa4096 2015-03-22 [SC]
      CD66 5CBA 0E2F 88B7 373F 7CB9 9720 3C7B 3ADC A79D
uid [ unknown ] Plex Inc.
sub rsa4096 2015-03-22 [E]

I saw the note from Chuck above stating that [unknown] should never show, and that the key is corrupt, but I’ve deleted it completely 6 separate times, and the freshly-downloaded key shows [ unknown] every time. I’ve even gone so far as to restart the computer (despite not being necessary), and have had no luck.

I also just discovered on Failed to fetch https://downloads.plex.tv/repo/deb/dists/public/Release.gpg The following signatures were invalid that Chuck has alerted the Build team. (Repo custodians).

I suppose I should just wait now.
