Sonos and Alexa Can Browse but Cannot Play Music

Server Version#: 1.24.1.4931 running on Synology DSM 6.2.4-2555 (1520+ model).
Player Version#: 11.2.10 (Sonos S1)

In the Sonos app, I can browse my Plex library with no issues. However, I can not play anything. It fails with “Unable to play xxx - the connection to Plex was lost”. Plexamp can see Sonos and will connect to it, but when I try to play music there, it fails similarly. I have tried removing Plex in the Sonos app, then reconfiguring it. That did nothing.

It’s the same thing trying to use the Alexa integration (“Alexa, ask Plex to play The Beatles”). It will say it is playing the Beatles, then nothing happens.

I have remote access enabled. A port is appropriately mapped on my router and configured in Plex. All of this used to work fine prior to Plex version 1.24.1.4931.

My other clients work just fine, both local and remotely. That includes Plexamp when I am not trying to cast to Sonos.

Are other people having problems?

I took some time today to contact Sonos support about this problem. I figured I might as well start there. They had me walk through all of the steps I did previously (reboot Sonos, router, usual stuff) and took a view diagnostic samples. It took ages but they gave me a case number for phone support. When I have another hour to burn I will call them (not today). I suspect this is some bug in the Plex integration itself and I’m not sure who really owns that.

My Sonos / Plex integration appears to be working as designed now. I’m relieved. Hopefully it will continue to to work. Perhaps not coincidentally, it started working after Plex fixed their expired cert problems earlier this week.

This speaks to Alexa not Sonos - but a PLEX silence issue as above. I have two 2nd generation Echo’s running as a stereo pair with an Echo Sub. Always worked perfectly to have Alexa play music from PLEX from Windows 10 media server. For a long time now, Alexa recognizes the PC/Server, the song/album/artist titles, library radio, etc., it says it is now playing… then nothing ever happens, just silence. So frustrating. Doesn’t work at all. Used to work so great. Now I have two bookends and zero sound from my PLEX library going through the Echo devices. Talk to Alexa who responds perfectly, then… nothing. What changed? It is a PLEX pass feature now? An API issue? I don’t know where to turn. I’m going through the community threads and it appears I’m not alone. 10.22.2021
