This issue has been a problem for many years. I just bought a Sonos Port and wanted to add my Plex playlists to Sonos. It will play some of the tunes in the playlist but will skip many with: “Connection to Plex lost” I am using the S2 Sonos app. Hopefully, someone has a solution.
I’ve only been using a Sonos Beam and Plex together for about a week, so my experience is limited. But I was having all sorts of problems getting music to play properly from my Plex server on a NAS, to the Sonos. Well, I just put the Sonos on an ethernet connection instead of wireless, and then restarted everything. Now, it all seems to be working.
I don’t like the Sonos Android app very much, so I’m experimenting with PlexAmp on the phone to control playback to the Sonos soundbar. With the Sonos on ethernet, that has gone from “WTF?” to working quite smoothly.
Still not having much luck with Alexa control, though.
Yes I have the same issue. Enabled port forwarding on my router but has not improved anything. Wish someone would take this seriously and find a fix. Really spoiling my experience with Plex.
I ended up making new playlists on the Sonos App. It is not as easy as Plex, but it works. I have to initiate the playlist in Sonos, but then can control the volume, skip tracks, and stop the playlist with Alexa. I now use Plex for recording TV, Kodi for video playback, and Sonos for whole house music playback from my NAS. So far, it is the best solution for my setup.
Thanks all for the replies. I really can’t get this thing to work, and I have concluded that it really isn’t worth all the effort, particularly since Plex themselves are just silent on this widespread problem.
I am going to put it to one side and look for another solution. Maybe I’ll come back to it one day.
I have the same problem, using the Sonos app from Android, and Plex Media Server on Linux. I’ve just updated to the latest version… I saw something in the release notes for 1.20.3.3430:
(HTTPS) Certain network errors or service outages could result in the server entering a broken state from which it would not automatically recover (#12037)
I’m hoping this solves the problem. We’ll see - I only just updated to the latest version (1.21.x.y or something like that now).
What I do in Linux is restart the server, and Sonos connects right back up to it. It’s got to be something on the Plex side given the restart of Plex causes it. Even if Sonos is doing something “weird”, Plex should be able to handle that without a restart. Wish I had time to figure out the protocols Plex & Sonos use to see what’s going on.
