Player Version#: Latest Sony Android TV version
I have a Sony Bravia 950H connected to a Sonos Arc via HDMI EARC. The soundbar is not able to decode DTS but can handle “Atmos” AC3.
The main issue I’m having is, if I leave passthrough on, the Sony TV (uses profile BRAVIA_UR3) supports DTS and will attempt to pass it on to the Sonos Arc, however the soundbar doesn’t support DTS so it stays silent. I can verify it’s getting DTS when I launch the sonos app and it tells me the input signal, DTS is not supported.
My workaround has been to change the settings in the TVs Plex app to output “optical” and transcode setting to AC3. While this is an ok solution for DTS tracks (and the preferred behavior because the Arc doesn’t support DTS) I end up losing eAC3 support so the Plex server will default to transcoding any audio that isn’t AC3 to AC3.
My thoughts were maybe I could create a custom profile for this TV on my server that allows passthrough for all codecs except for DTS and DTS-HD. I’ve looked around and can’t seem to find a profile for BRAVIA_UR3 in the plex program folders.
Anyone have advise or has dealt with a similar issue.
I’d be awesome if in either the plex app on the TV or the Android TV settings allowed us to choose supported passthrough codecs much like the Shield TV allows.
