just curious, have you tried disabling any tv system level picture/frame rate enhancer functions?

motion flow or whatever they call it, anything that post-processes the video before it gets displayed ?

While I hadn’t previously, I confirmed that turning off said settings had no impact on the playability of said files.

I’ll use Plex via a Roku Ultra than using the Plex app directly on my TV. I was hoping to avoid needing an external device but it seems like the best solution for the time being.

It turns out that the Roku Plex, while much better, still has some chopiness while playing. It, however, at least provides a 20 Mbps 4K transcode option, which plays buttery smooth. Unfortunately the Sony Plex app only provides at best “Convert to 1080p HD (High) 20 Mbps” @rcom is there a way for the Android Plex to allow for 4K transcodes? That would be a sufficient solution to my problem.

Nevermind. While the Roku Plex App does list options for 8 Mbps 4K through 20 Mbps 4K, it doesn’t list any 1080p options, and the server appears to confirm during transcoding that these are 1080p outputs. I’m guessing it’s a bug in the Roku app. Either way, I didn’t consider that the 4K transcode would lose the HDR capability, so I think I’ll need to find another source or remux these videos myself.
