I have a brand new Sony X750H Android TV. I downloaded the Plex player from the Google Play store. It is getting data from my Synology NAS.
I have MKV files taken from DVD. Most won’t play at all - the audio plays (and subtitles) but the video just freezes at the first frame. The Playback Info says it is Direct Play, 720x480, MKV, and MPEG2VIDEO with the ExoPlayer player.
Interestingly, it will play files take from Blu-Ray which are being transcoded. For those, it says “Unable to Direct Play as VC1 is not supported on this device”
I have an Amazon Fire stick in my other TV (older Vizio). It plays everything. The Playback Info is the same.
I need help debugging this. This is the TV my wife and I watch the most and she won’t be happy if I have to use a Fire stick (me neither). What is wrong with this Sony? It is the exact same Android Player that is on the Fire Stick. I feel like there is some problem or setting with the Sony but I can’t find it.
Thanks for any hints - I’ve tried a bunch of settings. I don’t know how to provide logs but I’'m not sure they would say anything if the problem is on the player?

I’ve never used a Sony so not sure if there is any setting for that sorta thing on itself. if it was direct play the app thinks it is fine for that TV. or I should say the TV is saying that mpg2video is supported.
You can force it to transcode by lowering quality a bit. or turn on auto adjust quality sometimes will if it is questionable

Thanks! I’ll look for the logs. I’ve found that once the video is playing (stuck) if I go into playback controls, change the quality down, then change it back to auto adjust it will play (and even looks nicer). I need to make it do this automatically so I don’t have to do it every time.
OK the problem seems to be something to do with the quality settings. The TV is at home with the server. If I leave the Home Streaming setting to max, or anything above 4 Mbps, the video will not play. Is this setting a maximum?

Please Please can someone help me? This problem is not going away. Can anyone point me in the right direction? The video freezes on the first frame when I direct play a simple DVD MKV file. This works on my other TV (Firestick) and iOS apps, and happens on every video. The only way I can play is to set the Home streaming to 3 or even 2 Mbps, or below. The NAS and TVs are on a wired ethernet. I think the problem is with this new Sony TV
