Speedup sync process

Hey guys,

I was currently trying out sync option, and just saw that my CPU currently is sleeping when making the conversion, at around a 10%, and the video taking long time to be converted. Anyway this process can be speeded up?

Kind regards

Those numbers will depend on your circumstances…
If you’re on a 10-core or 10 CPU system… 10% will usually refer to 1 core/cpu running at 100% – in that case you won’t get Plex to handle this any faster.
Similarly… once Plex is done optimizing the file it all comes down to how fast the item can be transferred. From 50% of the item sync progress onwards, your CPU should no longer have much load (except more items are queued for syncing).

Beyond that… from what I’ve been reading, Plex will only use a limited amount of cores for background tasks like syncing/optimizing of media. There’s no means to change that.

Hello,

Yes, I currently have a 10 core CPU, but none of the cores by checking with HTOP is at full speed. However when I place to optimize a video, then yes, all cores pop up at max speed. No idea why this is not happening with the sync process.
Also, it will be nice if you could sync videos without actually needing the server to transcode, just downloading the file as it is. It makes no sense to be trancoding, if the mobile phone that takes the file, can actually reproduce the format of the original video.
