I record a lot of football and when I go to watch it, the still image that shows the recording is often from late in the game and has scores which spoil the game for those of us who don’t want to know until we’ve watched it.
Is there a way to force the screen grab to happen in the first 5 minutes of the recording so the cover art doesn’t give away the outcome?
The spoiler issue has existed for many years from even before Plex introduced live TV or DVR as the same thing happens for imported shows for other sources as well as for content captured by Plex.
It has been requested that the captured frame(s) be chosen from early in the video or even that the position be user selectable. Plex has chosen to exercise their “selective inattention” and has managed to totally ignore their users. This, and many other issues, are just continuing examples of Plex’s lack of any concern for user friendliness.
Plex is unconcerned about their product doing anything except what Plex wants it to do. Plex only sees users when they look down to see what they are stepping in.
Plex has become more fluff than substance and this is reflected in things like this where they cannot even get the little easy things right.
Plex is on the same level as golf which Mark Twain described as “A good walk, ruined.” Plex is good (even great) software, ruined.
FWIW: I use Emby as well as Plex and I have not noticed this issue in Emby. However I have trained my eyes and brain to not really see the posters for imported or recorded content. The issue could exist in Emby as well and I have just not noticed, I simply do not know.
I suspect that in Emby you can simply not use any image extractor for the involved library and then you would get just a blank place holder. I do not know if such is available in Plex as i have never really looked. If it exists then it would be in the advanced settings for the library involved. I do not think that Plex allows that level of granularity and control in the settings
