Hi,

 

I’m planning on developing a Live Sports channel. Similar to SportsDevil on XBMC.

 

After some research I noticed a few issues, so there are a few factors I need to consider before starting:

 

  • Currently the API doesn’t support the transcoding on live feeds
  • Live Streams Options:
    • Selecting a stable streaming site to reduce maintenance of the regular expressions
    • Or adapt SportDevils (XBMC) regular expressions and use their maintenance update cycles J
    • Or using a P2P streaming plug-in; such as Sop cast, Tv ants etc.

 

  • First stage; match my setup: Windows > Samsung plex app

 

 

Are there any other live streaming options or issues that people know of?

 

My aim is longevity and ease of maintenance, so any better ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The best format for live streaming is one that is supported by most Plex clients natively since PMS doesn't currently transcode live streams. Currently the best/most common option is HTTP Live Stream (HLS). I haven't come across many free (legal or otherwise) sports streaming sites that use HLS. That likely means that you might need to implement your own transcoder using VLC or ffmpeg. I'm not really familiar with SopCast so I can't really offer much advice there.

I use, for sports streaming, SimpleTV. Is there any chance you could use it, to create something similar?

It works great with almost every type of links, specially rtmp. http, mms and udp links.

If someone creates a pluging like that, I'll post all the channels you need!

In this thread someone created an IPTV channel for plex.  Any chance we can use this to watch live sports streams?  Can you post a list of live sports streams please?  Thanks.

How exactly are you using SimpleTV for your sports streaming? Doesn't i need to be hooked up to an OTA antenna and if so, why not just watch it straight on your TV (assuming it can understand OTA signals)?

I"m trying to decide if I want to just get an ATV2/3 to get dedicated ESPN3/WatchESPN support

There is a software based player like VLC of the same name (SimpleTV)...... quite confusing but it is out there and yes it works!!! I too would love to see someone get it to work with PMS!!!

Yo have to edit a file of simpletv. Add a text line.

Then you create a channel on your particular vids in PLEX. Start simpletv and you’ll watch it in that channel of your vids in your tv.
